For those who want to see what went on at the Toronto show, you can go to the new Prius Canada site
It is www.prius.ca/en or in French www.prius.ca/fr
The nice couple that you see in the French site is my wife Sylvie and myself. It was great to see this car right up front.

Serge's thumb of approval lol. The French video is considerably shorter than the English one.

    Tim,

Funny that you should mention the asymmetry of the wheels. I call this sort of design a 'turbine' wheel and feel just the same way about the directionality of rotation... 2 of the wheels always seem to be rotating the wrong way.

As for expecting to see a mirror-image of the design of the wheels on one side of the car or the other, this only seems to be the case on some exotic sports cars, where the front wheels may anyways be smaller than the rear. This pretty much necessitates a mirror-image design.

Assuming that the stock 17" wheels have not been designed with highly specific airflow parameters, it ought to be possible to change them out for more aesthetically pleasing aftermarket wheels that are rotation-neutral.

Has it been confirmed that the production 17's will not both 'point forward'? Remember that these cars are prototypes. I could have sworn I saw a picture out there where the 17" rims did point forward on each side of the car, but I just looked around and cannot remember where I saw it.

Maybe Prius Team can answer this question for us when they answer some of the others floating around...

Looks like Edmunds.com has the 2010 Prius base price @ $ 23,500 - can't post the link since this is only my first post, sorry :(

**Thanks to efusco for posting the link below this post :)

Yes but they also show the engine as a 1.6L.

Good point. They also have this disclaimer:
Note: Est. model release: Spring 2009. Pricing & specs on these pages are Edmunds' assumptions

It's all speculation now I'm sure. But at least it's a starting point. Hopefully the March 25th date reveals ALL pricing, including packages, etc so I can see whether it'll fit my budget

After speaking with some Toyota reps today, they all told me pricing will be announced closer to the actual release.

I think March 25th is when Edmunds, C&D, and the rest of the press will be allowed to release the driving impressions.

Note also that this page, including that price, was up before the unveiling at the Detroit auto show in January. It was speculation then, and has not been fully updated to match details that were publicly released on Jan 12.

Check out this article: Paul A. Eisenstein: 2010 Toyota Prius improves to 50 mpg - Utica, NY - The Observer-Dispatch

What got my attention was "Manufacturer’s suggested retail price (base): $23,000 estimated.

    Cost fully loaded: $26,000 estimated."

Uhmmm, Mr. Eisenstein, unless you really know something we don't I don't think your even close. Look, I HOPE you are but really, a Prius V with the Advanced Tech package is probably much closer to $34,000 as a guess.

Maybe I'm a dreamer... but in light of companies completely going out of business and cutbacks and giveaways..... I'm leaning towards the lower number to be reasonably competitive.

Most automobile manufacturers are having to sell far less than before in order to keep the ball rolling... gas prices are down and the frenzy has let up for gas sippers.

As in everything else, its a buyers market, since buyers are rare... this could be no different.

Hmmm, I think it unlikely it'll be over $32k...they'll need to keep some margin b/w the Prius and higher end vehicles and since there won't be solar/moon roof on the V that should help keep the cost down a bit.

...and in CA gold 'ol Arnold decided to double the car tax so even regular folks like me second guess buying a car (hence driving demand for any new vehicles WAY down lower than it was already). I can only hope/dream that it comes out at a low price to make up for the fact the car tax on it is going to be doubled....until the governator gets recalled & someone repeals the tax (wishful thinking I'm sure) :)

State sales tax for new cars will be tax deductible under the new stimulus bill. :)

As I raise a glass of bourbon to you two (efusco/windstrings) this snowy afternoon here in NY, here's to hoping your right! :) I guess I've accepted a somewhat higher price in my mind so if it really is that much I can accept it easier... But yeah, in this economy and not having a raise in 7 going on 8 years from the city I sure as hell hope your right.

In Chicago, Wayne was quite adamant about $31K being the upper limit. Today's announcements repeat that they want to sell 100,000 in 2009 and 180,000 in a year. Based on the other available cars, I agree with you and Wayne. I ordered platinum, but would have a hard time swallowing anything much higher. The news stories about the changes in leadership also indicate they are aware they've been pricing too high.

speculation speculation speculation... in 2 months we will know... still say TOP of the line cost will be an incremental jump from top of the line 2009 price. so we say $200-400 more.

to make it more expensive means they would have to change the name or significantly change the technology (iow, give us a PLUG!!)
