Just bought a 2009 Prius with the AUX audio port and 12v charger for my Ipod/iphone inside the center armrest. I plug the ipod charger and audio jack in there and gently close the armrest lid to allow the wires to come out from under the armrest lid (hoping not to smash the wires). Where is the best place to put the ipod/phone? In the cup holders? On the seat? What are other ipod/iphone users doing on this model? I can't use a mount like the Griffin Tech TuneFlex or Road trip b/c it would stick out of the armrest storage compartment and I wouldn't be able close the armrest and I don't want use an FM transmitter. So for now, when I want to change the song, I have to pick up the ipod/iphone and do it manually while driving. I could use a ProClip mount- but the mount location is on the left side of the MFD, and the aux jack is far away in the arm rest and the 12v charger is on the bottom right. Not a optimum solution with all the wires. Thanks in advance for any experience and advice! I have read all the threads about the VAIS and DICE, but will pass on those until true Toyota ipod integration becomes available and isn't a kludge.
I stuck mine in the cup holder. Eventually went to a GROM unit, and put my old nano inside the CD box below the CD player, and it works pretty good. Occasionally gets confused and requires a power-on reset, but only about once a week or so.
I use my G1 phone as my MP3 player, and have it mounted in the center using my "R2D2 data interface" (per Hobbit's observation). http://priuschat.com/forums/audio-e...se-car-charger-dual-usb-ports.html#post801028 My phone/player now sits squarely in the middle of the car, very easily accessible yet is out of the way of everything else. It's connected to the Aux in the center console via an 3.5mm extension cable which for now I run directly under the lid. I also have drilled a hole in the back of the console to run the cable out of, but I like the other way better because the closed lid helps hold the cable in place without damaging it.
