This is what is listed on my invoice. Anyone know what this may be? Is it extra insulation or that spray stuff? The dealer said it was extra insulation but then I am not sure he really knew what he was talking about.
I do not know, but I'm supposed to have it too. I think it's a Gulf States thing. I asked in another thread about the leather upgrade, and what kind of upgrade tires they use.
my sis is the after market accesories advisor for the local ford dealership. the sound shield doubles as rust inhibitor and is just a plastic type spray on stuff. in fact, i watched a job that they were doing and it kinda reminded me of roof coating. ya know the type you paint onto mobile homes and flat roof sheds... she also says its one of the biggest ripoffs you can buy. she recommends the fab and paint seal but says that nearly no one is happy with the results of the sound shield.
Figures Well I guess I paid $350 for the rear bumper protector, rental car insurance, fab and paint seal. Going to get the dynamat extreme installed this weekend to take care of the sounds.
Basically, it is a sound dampening/insulation material for your car to cut down on interferrence noise. http://www.epinions.com/content_113637494404 This site has a pic and specs. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/directron/xtreme.html
I just got my new Salsa today, and it has the sound shield. The little blurb says that it's an undercoating which is supposed to dampen road noise. Let me know if you would like me to type in the whole thing for you.
I wonder if someone has taken a noise lvl reading in a OEM Prius and one with the soundshield to see how effective it is. Probably only 1-3 dB if we are lucky.
