Does anyone know about what it might cost to have a dealer retrofit a backup camera in a 2007 Prius I'm buying used? Thanks.
Cannot adivise on the cost, but you indicate that your package is the Base package. There is a difference between the MFD on the base models and those that have Nav and/or backup camera. The base MFD will not display the backup camera feed. You can do as I did and fit a third party backup camera - costs differ depending on the model and the way the screen is fitted in the car, but be careful about trying to link to the MFD.
It will probably be pretty costly to outfit the Prius with a rear camera. An alternative that you may want to consider is to have your dealer install proximity sensors in the rear bumper. A little speaker in the passenger cabin will make various sounds as the rear of your car approaches another object; I have found this works very well with my 2004.
For my 2005, if I got the OEM parts from Sigma Automotive and installed it myself, the cost would be around $700. As much as I'd like one, it's much cheaper to add a 3rd-Party camera system or go with the proximity sensors, both of which were mentioned before.
I'm in a similar situation but the '07 I'm buying has Navigation but no camera. I've found an original camera w/ housing on ebay but curious if that's all that is needed. Anyone know?
Don't take my word as a contract, but at least in the US I think that every package equipped factory Nav should have a rear camera, no?
Yeah, this is a European model and oddly enough, it does not come with a camera despite the NAV package Want to purchase the part from ebay but still curious if it will actually work and if there are other parts etc. needed
Something tells me that isn't the case...I see a lot of Priuses here (Suisse) that don't have the camera
