It fits so perfectly in the compartment below the radio that you'd think it was made precisely for the Prius. Of course you also can screw mount it elsewhere or stuff it inside the center console if you wish. But the fact that it can sit snugly in the center dash opens up many mounting possibilities and solutions. Right now I have it plugged into the front 12V outlet, but I'm thinking of drilling a hole in the back of the cubby and run the power line directly to a spare slot in the fuse box. I'm looking for some fuse extension device to do this without splicing existing wires. Any recommendation would be appreciated.
I ended up tapping the front 12V outlet for my USB thingy. Drilled a hole in the back of the radio compartment to run the wire. It works great. Fits like a glove too. Very pleased. If anyone's interested I could take some pics.
I have installed a single outlet in tha back of my centre console, the wiring is there to hook into. I then purchased a 4 outlet plus 2 USB outlets and I can run lots of stuff now. I also have a 12 volt supply for my laptop so movies and computing everywhere I go.
I have that same outlet and was planning on doing the same thing - got sidetracked and have since installed an always hot 12v outlet in the lower dash and another 12v outlet on the back of the center console that only works when the car is on. I have pics posted in the Prius Mods forum, a few simple mods. I would like to see pics of your install. I am currently contemplating installing my scanguage in that location under the radio. Here is the link to my mods: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-modifications/57475-few-simple-mods.html
Finally got around to taking some pictures of the USB unit and the Herbert Richter lighter mount. Also included is a pic of the switched 12V outlet under the steering wheel and the "always-hot" outlet in the rear hatch.
Nope. My wife and I use both cupholders for our coffee every morning as we carpool. No problem at all for our Venti size mugs. You can also bend the gooseneck up to have more clearance if needed.
