That's about right. I think it was $865, but I haven't gotten my credit card statement yet to be certain.

I have sent my request for a quote 6yr 100000mi but it has been over a week. Does it normally take this long. Please confirm that it is thru warrentyshack.com and that it is a genuine Toyota factory warrenty.
    Thanks

I believe you'll find that "batteries" are excluded in the Toyota 7/100K/0 Extended Warranty. If you'll go to the PriusChat "store," you can take a look at the exclusion list. Many items there, so it's not "bumper-to-bumper" type coverage. Well worth the cost if you have expensive covered parts fail.

My Dealer [Just closed the purchase of a 2007 Touring Edition, Package 6, Option A & P4] Nov 11th. The "Finance Manager" tried hard to sell me the same Warranty for $1,650 which I politely declined. She assured me there would be a "penalty" if I didn't purchase the Warranty when purchasing the car... BS!!

Thank you all for resoponding to my question on warranty.
I just purchased one from Troy and he was a pleasure to
work with. After I hemmed & haughed, thought & thought,
he was still as patient as the first conversation.
Thanks...and I really hope I don't have to use it!
I'll rest easier for another 39,000 miles!!

If you were upset by that and feeling really naughty, you could have pushed for an additional discount on the car, free desired accessories, or something else in return for buying the warranty at $1650. With their several hundred dollar markup on the extended warranty, the finance manager might have been willing to give you a couple hundred dollars in discounts or freebies elsewhere. I forget how long the money back return period on the warranty is. 30 days? A little while after taking delivery when you 'realize' that you had and still have the option to buy the warranty later, request your refund of the $1,650 on the warranty from Toyota. Keep the other discount or freebies. (This is if you were really mad at the finance manager for her dishonesty and feeling nasty.)

Ouch. That seems like a lot of effort to go to, but it appeals to my inner buttholedness when dealing with car salesmen, sales managers and finance managers. I usually just give them a "well, if you don't think the car is reliable, maybe I should reconsider that Honda/whatever..." and get up like you might actually leave. That usually stops a lot of BS.

I sent the paperwork in to troy the other day. Still haven't heard from him. I have less than 200 miles left 'til 36K. Hope I hear from him soon. I may have to leave it in the garage and take the bus 'til the confirmation comes through.

It's always seemed stupid to me to pay for an extended warranty. With all the cars I've had, and there have been many, I've never had an expensive repair. Then again, I always got a new car before warranty ran out (European cars have longer warranties).

I did check locally to see if there were any well appointed Prii on the lot with the thought of just trading mine in (avoid the thousand buck extended warranty), but no, the only cars available had the wrong colors and packages.

I think eventually people are going to be really leary of buying an out-of-warranty Prius, especially one that's starting to age a bit. That's definitely a factor in my decision.

The more I think about it, it would almost seem stupid NOT to buy this warranty. With all this car's sophisticated apparatus it seems to me that my cost for a single repair or part replacement could conceivably equal more than the $990. And again, as someone said, towing costs are covered (can be pretty expensive these days, especially if you're on the road).

Hope I hear from Troy soon.

By the way, anyone know if the HID headlamps are covered? I assumed they were but then started wondering. They're pretty expensive but then again, they're supposed to last for a very long time (low risk for the warranter).

At the upper right of any PriusChat webpage click on Prius Accessories and then on Discounted Extended Warranty.

I have a quick extended warranty question: when the extended warranty period is "7 years, 100K miles" is that warranty coverage AFTER the initial period of 3 years provided by Toyota (thus giving the owner a total of 10 years warranty protection)?

The seven year period starts upon initial delivery date to the first owner.
