Hello everyone, I have been helping a fellow PriusChat member with a 2001 Prius install the OEM Toyota Navigation system in his car, and it was a total success. As per the wiring diagrams and instructions on the site, it worked. We are going to post pics of both our cars very soon! So all you 2001 owners, be happy its very possible. The PriusChat members name is Dreamer, and we are two very happy Prius Classic owners. It works absolutely flawlessly on the stock Nav screen, buttons are all there already. All that was required was some wire taps and thats it! It was worth all the fun. And I hope other Classic owners try it too. It just makes the car so much better. Plus I like how the nav reads out highway numbers and exit numbers, and even tells me whether my destination is on the left or right side. Unlike my portable TomTom nav that does none of those things, and has completely inaccurate maps of downtown Toronto, and missing POI. If anyone is interested in pursuing a nav install, I am here to help, Free of charge! HAHAHA!!!
Hi I need assistance on aftermarket mp3 player on my japan classic import. it came without cd, just the cassette deck. been thinking on Sony cdx-gt470u or mex-bt3600u..what other mods have u done? i wanna pimp this sweety of mine..thanks dan
Ok.. sounds fun. I am an original owner of the 2001 and have always wished that could be done... but why do you laugh when you say "Free" help??? What is the first step to adding it? How can I do this as "economically" as possible. Thanks, Thelma
Hello!! Ive been looking to instal the navigation system in my 2001 prius. But everywhere I go I cant seem to find it. Could you help me out? Thanks!!
I don't have the TomTom but my Garmin Nuvi ($225) is a far better nav unit than in the Prius. The points of interest are far more numerous, the routing is much better and it even shows you pictures of upcoming offramps and freewar intersections so you are sure of which lane to take. It's also much easier to input destinations and multiple routings. I put an adhesive mounting disc at he far left of my Pruis dash and when I changed out my radio I routed the Garmin power cord under the dash so that only a little bit of the cord pops out near the disc. When I need to use GPS I just take the Garmin out of the glove compartment, plop it on the disc and I'm good to go.
Hello I just purchased at a auction a 03 prius and found out the buttons for nav and cd player are for looks. Sounds like you have a cure. Could you please help me? Thanks Tlars
