100,000 Mile Club

are they still every bit the car they were when you first got them? as i know nothing about these cars, i don't know how they age. i would assume fairly well, after 15 pages of 100k + people?

There are some substantial differences from non-hybrids that only become clearer at 100k miles:
1) Replacing brake pads is done vastly less often. It can be disorienting to take off the front wheels, expecting to replace the pads and find them like new.
2) The car honestly changes your driving habits, whether you want them to change or not. The big mpg display messes with your head. In conventional cars, the three big gauges of "Speedometer, Tachometer, and Clock" are telling you one thing and this Prius mpg display is now overruling them.
3) The Prius does not win any awards for the seats.
4) Prior to the Prius, the engine stopping at a stop light was irritating. After the Prius, the engine running at the stop light is irritating.

Mine has 112,000 miles on the odo now. My wife's has 93,000 on it. We have not had any problems, though I will eventually need to replace the cv joints. Oh and once in awhile I get a glitch on my mfd. A tap to the side of it gets the connection on pin 60 to reconnect. I'll have to deal with that someday.

I love the car and still get mid 50s out of it. There have been no hints of trouble with either battery. Mine is 4 1/2 years old, so I expect the 12 volt battery to need replacement in the next year, but surprisingly it tested as like new 6 months ago.

I was looking to buy a 2010 model, but I'm reconsidering that decision now and may run this one into the ground which is a relative term and to me would mean around the 200,000 mark at which time I should be able to pay cash for the next one. What a concept.

 

Well combined I have over 100K My 04 Prius had 20k on it and then was totaled in a accident so I upgraded and got a fully loaded 06 and now have 80K on it! Love my Pruis. The only problem I have is the Headlights on my new one keep going out? Sometimes its the drivers side then the pasenger side. If I turn them off and back on they work fine for a while and then go out again??

At this rate I should have 100K on my new on in the next couple of months..

 

I have 104,000 miles on my 2004. I have had no problems whatsoever.

The only expence I had was replaceing the OEM tires at 47,000 miles with Goodyear Assurance tires. I have averaged 52.26 MPG lifetime. Compared to the car I replaced, 2000 Subaru Outback with 72,000 miles with 22.9 MPG lifetime, I have saved over $6000 in gas money had I kept the Subaru.

I am looking foward to replacing my other car with the new 2010 Prius or the Plug-in due out the following year. :cheer2:

 

I'm halfway there in 11 months.

Picked up my Prius on Jan 21, 2008 and have a 150 mile daily round-trip commute. Not one problem with the car since I picked it up. Just replaced the tires, but they are part of my dealers "Tires for Life Plan" so they didn't cost me any extra.

Thanks for the great idea of running the inverter on the tankless water heater. We've got over 600lbs of Trojan 6v batteries on the Duffy electric boat, & use an inverter for Xmas 110v lights. Wife's 2004 Package 9 now has 106,000 miles. We also put 60,000 on a generation 1 and another 5000 on a second 2004 package 9 before we sold it. No problems on the current 2004 except the OEM tires, which lasted about 30,000 miles and a couple of mishaps, including hitting a large raccoon that took out the front grill and lower fascia and a rear end bump into a neighbor's car. Rear bumper mostly popped back in by hand. No dealer maintenance except the steering shaft recall and the DVD recall. I change the oil myself with synthetic every 5000 miles and replaced a couple of tail light bulbs and Toyota OEM wiper refills. Only issues are an aggravating green line reflection from the dash display and the car will need new shocks soon. Still on original brakes, but will replace them myself sometime this summer. Already made a downpayment on a 2010, so I will inherit this one and wife will get the new one.

My 2004 now has 132,000, lifetime mpg around 49, steering rack recall, right front wheel bearing, rear window wiper, keyless remote battery last week, OEM tires off at 40K, Hydroedge off at 120K, now Michelin something-or-other (OK, I have CRS...), OEM brake pads look great.
I also have a 2000 Subaru Outback with 188K that gets 25 MPG, and miles put on the Prius were not put on the Subaru, so it's saved me a bunch-a-lotta money. Certainly no reason to switch horses yet, for sure...

 

I reached 100,000 miles in 37 months. My Seaside Pearl is smooth as silk if a bit noisy. But I've been hit 3 times, once by a deer ( minor ), then by another driver ( a little less minor ) and then... OK once I slammed into a curb coming off an exit ramp and broke two wheels. All fixed by insurance.

Lifetime fuel economy as recorded and calculated by GH database is 2.1 GPC ( 47.8 mpg ). My normal daily commute is 145 miles of which about 85% are highway at 63 mph and the rest is city/suburban. The best segment I've ever had is 50 mi 'sunday drive' where I averaged 1.54 GPC ( 65 mpg ).

But the maintenance costs ( or lack thereof ) are phenomenal.

Another 4 years and 150,000 miles and I should be about ready to retire this baby. Next update in March of 2012 at about 200,000 miles.

Side note: A friend who also posts here is at 227,000 miles in 5 yrs. He was curious to know how much his '04 would trade-in for. $4000 ??? Holy..... There are vehicles with half those miles worth less than $300.

 

175K miles on my prius.. no complaints.

Have a 137K miles on my hydroedges..

That is about it..

Will need to think about a 200,000 mile club...:rockon:

Hit 100,000 Feb 09, purchased Feb 06....(06 model)...have had no problems what so ever....savings vs my previous car (1999 Mercedes ML320) 1) $3,150 rebate...2) 17 MPG vs 50 MPG...(avg $2.50 gal) $14,705 vs $5,000 ($9,705 savings)...so, almost free!

 

upto 168k on my 05. No problems until this morning. I think my inverter coolant pump is failing?

 

I have an 05 Tilelands Pearl with 134,356 miles on it. Original owner. Only had one maintenance problem where the cooling valve went out. I have maintained the scheduled maintenance like a religon. replaced brakes front and rear. But not at the dealer. On my thrid set of tires. Got rid of the stock tires @ 44,000 and put on some 195.65.15 Michelin X which gave me about 90,000 miles. Last week I put on chrome rims and a set of 205.60.15 Pirelli's at 134000 miles. Just added LED's throughout and added a VR3 backup camera and countersunk it in the visor. (see Prius Mods)

Overall I like the car average mileage is about 42. What I didn't like about the vehicle is the cloth interior and tan . . . yuck!

 

I have a 2003 Prius that's currently at 106,000 miles. Very few problems to speak of. I love my car and have no regrets.
