Actually I looked again. 1 day to 30, totally 100% refund. 31 to 60, jjust a $50 cancellation fee. After that, then pro-rated. So I'll eat the $50 to save hundreds. Once I hear from Troy and confirm getting the plan thru him, I will go to the dealer and cancel.

I read here in this thread that effective sometime in October 2008, the price was raised from $990 to $1055 for the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Plan 7 years/100,000 miles/$0 deductible.

I believe that was the only significant raising of the price in the last 5 years or so (I think it had once been $985 for a brief time and was raised $5 to $990 a long time ago).

P.S. Please do not mention the names of Troy, WarrantyShack.com, Toyota of Greenfield or PriusChat to your dealer.

I spoke with Troy today and the 7yr/100k plan is still $1055. The 6yr/75k is $655.

He also directed me to the new link for the list of exclusions which are essentially any routine maintenance or wear and tear parts.

Toyota Financial Services (list of exclusions)

I *think* the hybrid relay & battery items on this list are covered by Toyota's separate "Hybrid-Related Component Coverage" (8yr/100k) that automatically comes with any new Prius. I guess they put it on the exclusion list to make sure there aren't problems with double-coverage claims?

    Toyota Warranty and Coverage

We're thinking of getting the 7/100 plan. I'm curious if anyone here has had to call on the extended warranty recently and what their experiences were. I ask because with the economy and other factors I wonder if Toyota may change these policies. Troy mentioned someone who recently had their Bluetooth go out and it was taken care of by this plan. If that individual had NOT had a plan, the cost would have been a few thousand because Toyota does not sell that module separately and the LCD and connected parts all come as one package. Yikes!

Is this offer available to Canadians? Our initial warranty (3 yr/60K) has not expired on our 06 Prius.
If not, is there a similar warranty offer for Canadian Prius owners?

I think so because I thought I read or was told that all Toyota dealers in the US and Canada had to honor the warranty.

But I would write WarrantyShack.com or call Troy to confirm and ask him any other questions you may have:

    Troy (WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA)

    Direct Dial # (413) 772-0989
    General Office # (413) 772-0231

    Good luck.

I ordered this thorugh Troy, great service and I really appreciate the savings. I had gotten the warranty at the dealer, over $1700 for the Gold Plus 7/100K. Now I have the Platinum (better) 7/100K for only $1055. Well worth it in my opinion. Any 1 or 2 mid-range repairs after the 3/36 and it will have paid for itself.

Does anyone know of a good extended warranty I can buy that doesn't care that I am over the original miles warranty? We just bought our Prius last night and it has 40,000 miles on it. The dealership wanted 1900 for their warranty. I would love to get in on Troy's deal but can't.

Check with Troy. I know you can't get the New Car Warranty, but I believe he has Used Car Warranty Programs as well.

I spoke with Troy a few days ago, regarding my prospective purchase of a G2, possibly used. Troy can help us only with used Prii that are still within the 36/36 factory warranty. The used car warranty program for cars beyond that is for Toyota dealership used cars only.

galaxee, what issue(s) were resolved and how much would it have cost w/o the EW, if you don't mind my asking? I know you folks had recurring trouble with the HID lights (as do we). I asked Troy about this, knowing that the EW does *not* cover the bulbs, and he indicated that just about everything else should be covered including the ECU (?) if I understand this correctly.

But this doesn't mean that your dealer's service department will know this. For instance, my dealer's service department didn't even know that the wheel alignment on my 2007 Prius was expressly warrantied for 12 months/20,000 miles.

I think when seeking repair work under the basic warranty or the extended warranty, you should be prepared to make and argue your case.

I just purchased a Platinum warranty from Brad @ Crown Automotive in Lawrence, KS. The price was a little cheaper than Troy, and it was a quick process. I would recommend anyone with a Camry to call him.

Or, you can email me to get his number. I dont want to give it out if he doesn't know I'm posting this.

If you'd like you can just search CROWN AUTOMOTIVE IN LAWRENCE on Google.

Just a quick reminder, please check your junk mail folders if you don't see a reply from me within a day. (Or by Monday evening, if requesting a quote on the weekend). It seems "Extended Warranty" is a big trigger for a lot of spam detection software.

Checking mdh1951's quote request...the request came in on the evening of the 15th, and I sent back a reply the following day. If anyone has trouble reaching me by phone, you can also call me through the regular dealership switchboard at (413) 772-0231 and have me paged.

    Thanks,

    Troy

Excellent point, Boo. No one can know (or remember) everything, even if they were sent the memo. Many of us are fighting information overload on a daily basis and your local service center personnel are no exception. I always try to think about doctors, mechanics and support people in general as someone standing on a tennis court with a few ball launchers firing at them. Frequently they are just trying to return the balls flying in their direction and keep them "inside the lines" wherever possible. But some will get returned foul or missed due to the workload and *gasp* their attempt to maintain a normal life and family responsibilities. :)

Congrats to toyguy2009 on your savings. Unless the difference were substantial, and despite the current economic landscape, I was happy to support Warranty Shack--and thus PriusChat--so this place can stay online.

mdh1951, with minor exceptions, I would assume Troy responds to people fairly quickly. Modern communication technology can be the broken link in the chain more often than we realize.

One note for folks who are thinking about buying their Ext.Warr. through Troy, be sure to mention "Warranty Shack" and that you found the info on PriusChat if you want this site to get financial credit for your sale. On my recent purchase I spaced out and didn't mention this fact. I realized this a few minutes after giving Troy my payment info. I quickly called back and Troy was able to correct my omission. :)

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I'm about to get myself a 2009 Prius and having this option available is a real godsend! Now I know to not get the factory extended warranty and save myself some ducats!
