A local dealer here in San Antonio advertised the Prius with a $2,500 discount--I haven't seen that in a year. An indication of the economy and gas prices, I suppose. Are dealers discounting the Prius in other parts of the country as well?
i think with the announcement of the 2010 Pri, many are holding off for that causing a bit of an overstock... couple that with the general slowdown in the auto business and essentially, for the first time in its history, the Pri is not flying off the showroom floor
Certainly in the Bay Area, there are a lot more Prius vehicles on the dealer showrooms. Three dozen or more at the bigger places.
The local dealer is offering $2000 off MSRP. A big difference from the $1000 dealer gouge in 2005. I think I will get one rather than wait for a pricey 2010. Then in 2015 I can take my pick of PHEVs. Anyone want a 2005 for $12000?
I just got an offer from a Bay Area dealer for $3000 off MSRP, with no add ons. If they have the dark blue I will get it this wekend.
In NJ $2500 off is being advertized. The dealers that had maybe 1 or 2 mow have a dozen sitting on the lot. One dealer listed 40 in inventory. The willing & able buyer is now in the superior position. To quote the limbo song, "How low will you go?" If I were shopping for a 2009 I'd hold out for my color, option package & invoice, not 1 penny more.
That seems like a fair price. I was at the local dealer the other day and saw a 2004 for $18,800 more than I payed for a 08, slightly used Some are just oblivious to reality.
I just bought an 09 Package#2 at $2,230 below MSRP, no financing. I traded a vehicle and received $1,675 above KBB Trade-In Value ($495 below KBB Private Sale Value). I'm not exactly sure how to evaluate this transaction, but I feel I got a good deal overall. Opinions?
You did good! Not much fat in a package 2 to cut so the dealer would have been looking for cash flow and moving floor stock. That's a good discount.

Yup prices have come down a bit. 6 months ago, I was looking for a car and I couldn't even consider the Prius because of limited availability. Earlier this month, I was at the dealership for maintenance on my 17 year old Camry, and by chance I was shown the dealer's inventory and they had a whopping 12-15 vehicles on hand. Next thing I know, I was test driving the car, and walking out later in the day with a big hole in my wallet. :-D So I bought a car when I didn't really need one, which some say is the best time to buy a car. do not know bout that, but I'm definitely happy with my purchase.
Our local dealer has 53 Prius in stock. Inventory Search This dealer has advertised $2500-$3000 off MRSP plus $1000 rebate depends on package.
I've seen $3000 off MSRP at Hamer Toyota Mission Hills, CA, for thapast several weeks. (also 50 in stock)
