Can anyone tell me if the motor drive inverter from a 2006 will fit a 2002. I have a chance for a 2006 inverter (unknown condition) for £50 and to me it is a real bargain and I would buy it for spare if it would fit my 2002 car. Maybe I should buy it anyway at that price
Completely incompatible. The 2006 (NHW20) inverter uses 202 VDC traction battery and steps it up via a voltage doubler. The 2002 (NHW11) uses 274 VDC traction battery. To handle the higher voltage, the MG1 and MG2 stator coils were converted from parallel (NHW11) to series (NHW20) configuration. Bob Wilson
I have a 2002 inverter/converter in non-working condition. I just replaced it with a good one. If you just want spare parts, I'm sure there's plenty of good stuff left in my non-working one. I would happily take 50 pounds for it, but I don't think you would want to pay shipping to Greece. Good luck! GW
You say that you replaced your inverter. How did that go? Did you use a new part, or a used one? I am considering replacing my inverter with one from a car that was totaled in an accident. Any advice?
Hi rmercovich, new poster. I have advice but it is not based on direct experience. Make sure that the inverter on that totaled car did not experience coolant loss while it was operating. This equipment's health/survival depends on an uninterrupted coolant flow whenever it's on. If your old one's toasted, do we know if its electrical pump also failed? That is often the precipitating cause, and if so, you need one of those also. If you install these parts and refill the coolant, it is not exactly simple to bleed the air out of the system (I did that part). So if you are working on this project let's make sure you have all the tips and tricks in hand. Unfortunately Prius inverters can also fail due to electrical problems in the motors, and if this is the case a replacement inverter won't help (for lonog). Maybe we need a longer explanation of your situation rmercovich.
its pretty easy to remove the inverter, the hose for inverter coolant tank needs to be disconnected, the two breather hoses, the yellow circuit breaker sensor and then you have 5 orange high votlage wires in the back ( service plug must be disconnected for at least half hour i think ) and you also have 3 high voltage wires on the front right. and you need to figure out why your inverter is bad, it could be your coolant pump is bad and its not cooling the inverter. I had same problem and i was on the brink of losing my inverter.
Sorry for the delay guys. I replaced mine with a used eBay unit. You can read about my progress on the thread in this forum called "New (Old) Prius, Help Me Get It Home" I had "upto" two problems. My coolant pump was probably not working well enough. Although I tested it in the sink and it seemed to work, I replaced it out of frustration while I also did some fancy tricks bleeding the system. Maybe the old pump would have worked if I left it in there for the bleeding procedure. But my advice is to read my other thread and go with used parts.
