Did your dealer set "home" for the Navigation

:mrgreen: BRAVO for your Salesman.!!

I had no help {aside from the Manual (HAR HAR HAR) in setting "Home" on my NAV system.} It's been a l_o_n_g process of reading, checking the forums, and "trial-and-error" to begin to find how to use the NAV. As I recall it took me several days to successfully set "Home."

A very good resource is the online DVD for the Lexus (The Lexus NAV system is the same as Prius' except the dash buttons are in different positions) Try this link:

This works best on a high-speed internet connection.

 

Dianne from Carson programmed the Navigator for me when I picked up the car. She spent about 30 minutes explaining how it worked as well showing me other settings.

Our salesman passed us off to a Prius expert, who walked us through various features of the car. He programmed "Home" for us during his demonstration of the Nav system and was ready to go into a detailed demonstration of the system when I stopped him (as a gadget freak, I was already familiar with how they work). I was pleased with the level of service we received.

 

I can't speak for the sales dept but I do set the dealer in the nav when I am out test driving during Predelivery. I always check to make sure everything works,including nav ( have it guide me back from the gas station ). I have also spent about 20-30 minutes once with a customer going over the basics on its use,no charge of course, :wink:

 

My salesman setup 'home' as part his demonstration of the nav system. I actually think that's better, I got to watch him do it rather than having it already setup.

 

I agree; my answer was "No" because he showed me how to do it myself, though my home was 350 miles away. He knew I'd want to test the system on the drive home. (Learned to turn on toll roads along the way.)

The dealer DID set a few tasteful local radio stations in MY city. I didn't learn this until I was nearly home. Good memories (posted in detail on my Escanaba Order Tracking thread).

 

My dealer didn't. I learned it myself.

Meantime, anybody worried that somebody would steal your Prius and wait for you at "home" using the NAV?

Kinda like loosing your cel and somebody gets access to all your numbers.

Not really. In the US, at least, they don't need the NAV to find out where you live. By law you have to carry the registration in the vehicle. Unless you remove such every time you leave the car unattended, it easily identifies "home" for the owner of the vehicle. The name, address, etc., is clearly printed on the registration for all to see.

Also, in states requiring proof of insurance, the insurance ID cards have a name, address, etc. printed on them as well.

That's cool that they did that.

I got my Prius literally right off the boat. They hadn't even finished the dealer prep when I arrived.

Even so, I don't think the salesman would have been able to input the name since he wasn't real familiar with all the Prius features when I was asking him questions prior to leaving the lot. He didn't even no what Deuteronomy was! or the "B" slot on the shifter.

 

My dealer set the NAV "home" during the delivery walk-through/demo. I thoguht it was great, as I let NAV lady guide me home (I bought my Prius at a dealership about 300 mi. away, as did many folks last year).

Dude, you leave that stuff in your car? I have mine in my wallet.

 

Set it myself before the drive home, 800 miles or so. I also had my iQue and I ran both side by side on the way home to compare them. Did not get lost and did not have to stop for directions! I thought programing home was a rite of passage for new Prius Owners.

My Dealer didn't set it and advised me to only set it somewhere "near" my house - for that very reason, that it would make it too easy to know your home address & burgle the house while your car was being repaired or after it was stolen.

I do keep my registration & proof of insurance in the car, as well as various mail & receipts - so I didn't worry about having my exact home addy set.

Oh - and I have an alarm at home as well Though I don't always set it ...

Not by choice, but necessity. It is the law here in OH. Don't get me started on silly laws though.

 

The dealer did not set the home destination. Which was ok because I live in Chicago and bought the car in WY. However, upon taking my car to the local Toyota dealer for service (oil changes, recalls, etc.) I did notice that the #2 preset was set by the dealer to their address. I thought this was somewhat presumptuous and deleted it.

 

Even if they had put my address in, the nav info is incorrect and as the numbers as listed in the computer go in the oposite direction of what it really is. The result is I am shown to live at the "top" of my street when I actually live at the "bottom" of this street.

I also have found many errors in nav info.

What really drive me nuts is when I search for an address and it can not find it, but when I enter a phone number (for a business) it finds the correct location - with it listed at the same address I was trying to enter under an address search.

I hope them make improvements in future software upgrades.

 

I know you are required to have your driver's license, registration and insurance card available to show an officer when driving the car, but not while it is parked unattended! Keep it in your wallet!

I just love TV shows and movies where crooks break into a car, and laugh when they find the keys over the sun visor and the pink slip in the glove box. In those days, that was the title.

 

All that stuff wouldn't fit in my wallet so it is in the glove box. Also, I am not the only driver of the car so we would have to remember to take the paperwork out and give it to the other driver.

My dealer didn't show us anything about the NAV on the '04 since we already had an '02 with NAV and knew how to use it. When we got the '02 he demonstrated the NAV by showing us several ways to set their address into it.

 

Gee, how big can an insurance card and registration card be? D/L is driver specific; each driver should have his/her own.

Insurance co. can issue duplicate cards (usually more than one comes with the renewal these days), and registration can be copied. Law enforecment agencies can easily determine legitimacy of duplicate registration, usually by D/L address matchup, if not for last name matchup.
