So will we be able to use the bluetooth feature and dial calls and enter navigation information while the car is moving? Or will it be as the current models where we are locked out unless stopped? Thanks and have a great day.
None of us got to drive the car, so we couldn't confirm or deny it. An owners manual was not present either.
We should have lifted one of the cars off of the ground to give it a test. Why didn't we think of that? Tom
Darn-Those are the two things that really bother me about my Gen II Prius. I have the lock-pick that allows me to make calls but I really wish Toyota would knock that locking us out BS off. Make me a sign a waiver or whatever. If CA permits drivers to use bluetooth while driving, Toyota should too. Here is hoping that when it finally hits the street Toyota will have come to their senses.
It's the same as the Gen4 Navi/BT functions that are now in the Venza. You can test it out for yourself by test driving a Venza today. It's Toyota's philosophy not to allow manual inputs to the screen while the vehicle is in motion. That hasn't changed apparently. What they have done is make the voice commands more capable and quicker. Calling by voice command or giving the vehicle a new address by voice takes less than a minute and IMO is easier. I have no problem doing either on the fly at 70 mph.
One thing we did confirm is the auto-pressing of the equivalent "I agree" button after 5 seconds, but I'd have to agree w/ Phish that things in motion are probably going to be locked out.
Hey, does that include spelling out B-U-R-G-E-R K-I-N-G or is it more simplistic? I still override my '04 NAV as needed, but Replacement Day in 2014 is half-way here now...
No spelling. However, the system in the new 2010 RX is called "Casual Speech" voice recognition. So for example, instead of saying: "Dial by Name" "Call Bob" "Confirm" You say: "Call Bob at Home" This is one people will like the most "Where's the nearest gas station along my route?"
I have friends named Bob but I never ring them. I just don't know what I'll do. Sorry about poor humour thread hijack.
The answer is NO. It appears that it is Toyota's policy not to allow interaction between the driver and the Navi/BT screens while the vehicle is in motion. But the voice commands are so easy to use and safer, why not use them instead? If you want to test drive the new Navi/BT system today, take a Venza out for a spin. Same exact system.
