List of Hardware that Positively Works with the Prius

Don't confuse BT versions with BT profiles. The Prius uses the Handsfree Profile which incorporates data transfer, signal strength, dialing from the device etc. There is also the Headset profile, which is strictly audio, volume, send/end. If you're adding a device to an existing non-BT phone it likely supports the Headset Profile, not the Handsfree.

 

jsk1998, you are correct.

i received a response from Jabra stating that their adapter only supports voice transfer. they also state that they have tested it with the Prius without success.

Sony Ericsson T68i works with the Prius.

Sony Ericsson P900 does not; it's a known defect with the phone not supporting handsfree, and Sony Ericsson have no plans to fix it.

 

Pardon me if this is the wrong place to post this, but Sprint just released a new BT phone the PM-325 by LG. I was wondering if anyone has tried it. If not, are there any keywords that I should look for in the documentation that might lead me to believe that it will either work, or not work with the Prius?

I have a PM-325 and 2004 Prius. It works just fine. You cannot download addressbook into Prius though. Sound quality is good.

I have a Sony Ericsson T-608 which I got from Sprint. Works great with the Prius and I can BT transfer my contact list to/from Microsoft Outlook and to the Prius. :lol:

I have the JBL sound system with in-dash 6-changer, but no do NOT have nav. I'm a little confused by what you guys mean for CD changer. I'm not going to lose the my in-dash changer am I?

P.P.S. Is Coastal providing real receipts now? My hitch from them is excellent, but for some reason they wouldn't send me a real receipt. (I emailed several times nicely and they would just ignore those emails.)

 

do you need a blue tooth headset to be able to talk on the phone while driving or does the car have a microphone and speaker inbuilt??

If your Prius has the Navigation system built-in, then it also has a built-in microphone and speaker for bluetooth, so you wouldn't need a separate headset. Of course, your cell phone needs to support bluetooth.

 

I have found that the Motorola v551 and v600 bluetooth phones both work well with the Prius. There are offered by Cingular and T-mobile respectively. I suspect that the v505 also works. I have seen several threads mentioning the tha Sony Ericson T68i works, but my wife's doesn't, but she has amost the first one available in the US and I suspect that it has an issue related to that. If you have the navigation system then it will certainly work (package 6 in the '05) Your dealer will be able tell you if you have it or not.
Bluetooth is great. My phone is usually in my laptop bag in the trunk and I can answer the phone from the steering wheel and make calls from the navigation system. I use 1-touch dial for 18 people that I transferred from my phonebook using bluetooth to make calls while driving. It is possible to add 1-touch dial numbers without bluetooth, but it is sub-optimal. You can only see the names of the people you are dialing while the car is in motion. The phone numbers become invisible as a "Safety feature". You would have to remember which 1-touch number corresponds to which phone number. This may be fine for a number or two, but 18? I recommend "borrowing" someones bluetooth phone to help you get your 18 numbers into the Prius if your phone doesn't support uploading your phonebook.

I have a Sony Ericsson T637 from Cingular. What I ended up doing was uploading all my phone book entries to my computer, backing them up, and then splitting multiple phone numbers into separate entries and giving them identifiable names like "Mom (Home)" and "Mom (Work)." Then I synced all of this to the phone, uploaded the phone book to my Prius, and then resynced my phone to put back all the original entries (where each contact has several phone numbers). It was a pain, but I reasoned I'd only have to do this once. I can add individual numbers to the Prius as the need arises.

The point is that my one-touch dial names are now clear. I can see that one of them is Mom (Home) versus another which is Mom (Work). A little bit of a pain, but in the end I seem to be happy.

 

Are you able to get phone numbers to download from the Motorola V551. I have not been able to, my phone disconnects every time. Is it something I am doing wrong?

 

Actually your phone disconnecting is step one of the process. The Motorola phones are only capable of one bluetooth connection at a time. In this case, you can't be bonded to the carkit for phone mode and send a phonebook entry.

Once you show the phone as disconnected, go to the phone book entry you want to send, then hit the menu button and select send via bluetooth. Then select the name of your car's BT kit. It will send one phone entry at a time, then it should automatically reconnect to the the car's BT system to send/receive phone calls.

 

So does a blue tooth PDA connect to the calendar part of the Prius? I was especially wondering about the Treo 650? Also I am wondering about the computer link. My laptop does not have blue tooth. It is a Centrino and works on the wireless network I have set up in my house. My network connection allows me to use my laptop while in my car in my driveway. It's too bad that my car can't connect with my wireless network.....but then again, I guess my dear Prius is safer from all those viruses roaming around out there. Can PDA viruses or cell phone viruses get into our Prius computers? OOOOOOOh OOOOOOOH I shudder to think.

Tara, no worries. There's no chance a virus will get into your prius from the phone or your computer via Bluetooth. The Bluetooth profiles are very specific in the type of data they allow, and no re-programming of the Prius code is possible with the handsfree profile.

In order to connect to the Prius, any BT device would have to support the handsfree profile, and your PDA and laptop likely do not support that profile. I tried linking my PC for the purpose of downloading the phonebook, and the Prius would not bond with it. I suspect it won't bond with any device that does not ID as a cell phone.

Unfortunately the Prius doesn't have Wi-Fi support. It would be really cool to load the phone book, tweak UI settings, change sounds, configure the Voice Recognition etc from your PC.

 

:? So does the Prius calender connect with any other electronic device like for instance the Treo 650 or some other smart phone?

In my experience, nothing will transfer out of the 650 except for names and numbers. The calendar feature on the Prius appears fully self-contained.

Note too that a lot of people have had trouble with the 650. Toyota and Palm claim the two don't work together, though many have had success (myself included) after applying the latest phone updates. My 650 is a Sprint unit. There are a couple posts floating around (google treo 650 prius bluetooth) with instructions on how to get going with the 650/Prius combo.

 

I want to know if I can purchase a headseat monitor for the prius with a dvd player. If I can, do you guys know where I can get them and installed in SO cal (Orange County.)

Evan got a neat system from Walmart. Toyota sells a system also, though that one is quite pricey.
