Today's Letterman had Tom Hanks on tonite, and they spent a whole 5 minutes talking about his electric car and his hybrid. He also mentioned he's involved with a company trying to get into the electric car market again. BTW, I recorded it on DVD-RAM and can rip it if someone is willing to host it.
Drat! I watched Letterman for all of 2 minutes this evening, but Futurama was on to... so... ya know. If you can post it, I'd like to see it too; I could host it for a bit too if that aspect hinders you.
OK, ripped, but this 5.5 minute clip is over 350 MB. That won't do. I could probably compress it down to a 10-15 MB file or something tonite, and still maintain reasonable quality. Is that size OK?
Thx, Danny, the file is uploaded now. Tom Hanks talks Prius EDIT: Hmmm... The audio is out of sync at the end. Oh well, close enough for now. EDIT: Audio sync has been corrected.
Hmmm... I can't seem to get the audio sync'd up properly. Off by a second or so by the end of the 5.5 minutes. Time to look into the software again... BTW, the file is over 16 MB. For those who only want the audio, I also uploaded a 1.8 MB MP3 file, here. EDIT: Audio sync has now been corrected. 20.5 MB now.
Hey, thanks for that. He is quite funny. When he gets to the hybrid and talks about the "batman computer" do you think he is talking about the prius?
It sure sounds like Tom Hanks is talking about the Prius... As for the audio sync, yes it seems to lose it near the end, but good enough for watching it online. Thanks!
Yep. Tom Hanks is already known to own a Prius, and he does mention the car with Batman computer was a hybrid a bit earlier in the conversation. The file has been corrected - no more audio sync issues. It's 20 MB now unfortunately. File is here. (It's in the same location as before.) And again for those who just want the audio, the 1.8 MB MP3 file is here.
I couldn't get the video to go past the electric motor question Wound up listening to the MP3. He's got to be talking about a Prius.
If you're having problems keeping a fast enough data rate for watching the stream in your browser, you can get the whole QuickTime file by right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking on a Mac) and downloading the file to disk.
Yes. I don't know if he owned a prior Prius model too though. A Prius-Hummer War Divides Hollywood, Hedonism vs Holier-Than-Though PC Entertainment industry executives like Jim Wiatt, the president of the William Morris Agency, who used to be seen in a big fancy Mercedes-Benz, drove to the Vanity Fair party in a hybrid. Tom Hanks just bought the redesigned 2004 Prius, the second generation of the car Toyota first introduced in 2000. It is the movie people who can afford mansions who are driving the $20,000 hybrids. And it is the rappers who just made their first couple of million dollars who are buying the $50,000 Hummer. It is the kids of entertainment industry executives who rent Hummer limos for their proms and big nights out.
I have watched the video twice now. He says "R-A-V-4 by a major car maker" (sic) in the first part, so he must own the RAV4-EV that Toyota produced. He also says his hybrid is a month old, and has GPS (a #9 - that would make sense). Wonder how long he had to wait for his? Do you think he may have been "bumped" up to the top? Tom, if you are lurking...wanna update us? Overall, it was a great plug on Letterman. Thanks Eug for your efforts to provide the video clip to the group. I didn't get to see Letterman the other night, but I am glad I could see the clip after the fact.
So does Tom Hanks own a chunk of AC Propulsion, or is this a different company with a similar idea? The tzero is supposed to go 350 miles (all the way from LA to Vegas) but maybe a full-size car would only go 100 miles on the same battery pack. I want a tzero, but I've never found any info about when (or if) it's ever gonna be available.
I listened to the mp3 clip, and you can hear Tom Hanks almost say "Prius". About 2 min 15 sec into the interview Dave says "So you're pleased with it ?" Tom says "Oh, I love the thing, I love my P...", he catches himself and says "I love my hybrid as well". This is great PR
