[font=Andalus:e5442783cc] [/font:e5442783cc] </span><span style=\'color:darkblue\'> all! I know the City of Los Angeles, California, allows free metered parking (as long as we keep watch of the limits...such as time limits). I was wondering if anyone knows of other cities that allow Prii (all hybrids actually) to park at metered parking areas for free. The City of LA started it's free meter parking in October 2004. It's a pilot program that will end, I believe, in April 2005. At that point, the city will determine if it's a good enough incentive to continue it. I think it is! I had one Dept of Transportation parking enforcement officer issue me a parking citation. I wound up contacting the supervisor and advising him that I was wrongfully cited this ticket. The supervisor assured me that the citation would be deleted. Unfortunately, some of the parking enforcement officers are still unaware of this new program; therefore, I've printed out my own little plaque that I place on the dashboard near the VIN stating that it's a hybrid vehicle and that in the City of LA, hybrids are exempt from paying at meters. It's worked! I work in Downtown LA and park my Prius on the street. I haven't paid a dime and haven't gotten a ticket since I've placed the plaque on the dashboard. (Thanks Mayor Hahn, City Council, and City Councilman Eric Garcetti!) Kosame
Since this thread is the one that pops us when you Google "free metered parking in L.A." I thought I would update everyone: I spoke with Sarika today at the L.A. office of parking management at 3:39pm (its recorded). I asked: Are hybrid vehicles allowed to park for free at meters: ANSWER: YES Do you need the HOV Sticker: ANSWER: NO If you get a ticket, you should contest it. Please note: This applies to the city of L.A. only - You may get a ticket if you park in Santa Monica or Beverly Hills (or others)
You can park in Santa Monica. I go rollerblading along the beach every so often and park in the lots off Main. I confirmed it with the militant parking n@zis there and he actually smiled and reminded me to mind the time limit (2 hours).
I can confirm that this is still in effect. Got a ticket today in Studio City (first one ever on my 04 Prius) I called LA Parking Violations, spoke to Joseph, and he confirmed that the exemption is still valid. All I have to do to contest it is to send in the ticket with a copy of my registration (which has a Hybrid Code on it). Phil
So we can park anywhere in the county of LA, including Santa Monica without putting $$ in the meters? What about Beverly Hills? Pasadena? Downtown LA?
City of Los Angeles, including downtown L.A., yes-- entire county of Los Angeles, as such, no. As far as I am aware, no exemptions for a Prius in Pasadena or Beverly Hills. However, Santa Monica also allows free parking. Ted
