I want to get some aftermarket rims for my 2001, what is the biggest rim I could get. I seen one with 17" but they seem to big...
low profiles? i have 17s. they are fine. i was thinking it could probably fit 18s. the clearance is definetly there. 17 low profiles have a smaller diameter than the stock wheels. So.. 18s are safe.. not sure about anything else. your MPG will go down and your ride will turn more solid. Still smooth but more solid. Your handling will improve along with tractions in rain or dry.
hmm.. you have an 01.. didn't see that... if.. hmm.. if the 04 tire isn't too tall for your 01.. then you could still use 17s.. they are wider though. I have my old set of stock tires. If you want to drop by.. you live in Cambel.. i live in San Jose.. we can do a size test.
i'm not sure about the 01. I know for the 04 and 05 you can get scion TC rims. they look really good on it too. you have to figure out what size the wheel is.. er.. well.. lug pattern. 04/05 is a 5/100 5 lugs 100 milimeters apart ... er.. i think that's how it's measured.
I put the stock wheels from a Scion tC, 17"x7", on my 05. The outside diameter of the tire is only slightly bigger than the oem prius tires (0.145 inches). I imagine any toyota rim with a 5-100 lug pattern would work granted it is from a passenger car an not a truck. The Corolla, Matrix, and Celica all have the same pattern as the gen 2 Prius. But it looks like the gen 1 Prius is a 4-100 lug pattern. The Scion xA and xB have a 4-100 lug pattern so you might try looking in that direction.
yeah.. his wheels look nice too i've seen them. Your outside diameter is bigger than oem? my 17's with low profiles are smaller than oem... hmm. strange. i guess the tire used makes that much of a difference. You can see mine at the next prius meet.. whenever that may be..
I have 4 lug... Thanks for the help. There are Prius meets? I just got out of a Mustang car club after I sold my stang. Loved the meets we had. How often do you guys meet up?
our last meet was in nappa valley. i'm owner. I try to attend every meeting. I would like to host another meeting. here.. go up to Usergroup at the top.. .. and click on it... under non-member... find San Francisco Bay area... then join group now your part of my group. then under forum on the left.. (click it).. and then scroll down to the bottom wher eyou were see our club and all the others. you can only view clubs you have joined. have fun. I need to work on making it more active. i'm trying to get cars to hand out since i see soo many prius and see so many prius owners.. but.. i can't print from this mac... hmm..
I'm about to get a Prius, and I'm wanting to get 17" rims. It appears that the only way to do this is buying an aftermarket set of rims, right? So, for those of you that have done this, what do you do with your existing wheels? Just stash them? How much did a new set of rims and wheels cost? Did anyone find a way to sell their original wheels to recover some of the cost of the upgrade?
I had the 17" Scion wheels with pirelli P7000 installed and they look great. Does anyone know if I need to get the computer adjusted for these? They are 17" Toyota OEM alloy wheels was taken off a 2005 Toyota Scion TC with Z-rated 215/40R17 Pirelli P7000 Super Sports . Also, I was told by the tire guy that installed them I may loose 1 or 2 mpg only, is that correct? Thanks!
another thing to consider is that the Classic used LRR tires. People who have changed reported significant mileage drops.
V8cobra, which tires did you go with on your 17" wheels? Do you have the Scion TC's?? Also, please tell us your experiences comparing the stock wheels and tires to your 17". Did your handling improve drastically?? How about highway stability? Any negatives that you can share?? Did your ride quality suffer along with tire noise? TIA!! Brian
If they can be trusted, streetdreams.org lists the center bore, bolt circle diameter (pitch circle diameter, PCD), offset and lug sizes of many cars that match pre-2004 Prius rim specs and post-2004 Prius rim specs.
