Since the Toyota Camry is the best-selling mid-size sedan in the United States, and has sold more than 10 million worldwide, great interest was naturally piqued when Toyota announced there would be a hybrid version of the car. That car, or at least a prototype version of the Camry Hybrid, became available recently for an extended test. I like the Hybrid concept, no matter who the manufacturer is. Toyota seems to have jumped onto the Hybrid bandwagon and offers Hybrid technology in the Camry, Highlander, Lexus RX and a couple of others to come in the near future. As such, it is probably one of the most experienced manufacturers of Hybrid cars and SUVs. The 2007 Toyota Camry Hybrid is, in my estimation the best Hybrid vehicle available to date. Now that’s a big statement. What makes it so superior to some of the others (and I’ll grant I haven’t driven EVERY hybrid out there)? do not know but the author did say he was trying to carve up corners without freaking that guy in front of him out. Edmunds did a test and they got 30.7mpg.
Again, any test of the Camry has to be taken with a grain of salt. Very few places in North America are not affected during these winter months, so i expect the mileage numbers to be depressed in these tests... hmm... actually looking at that test vehicle, it's got Michigan plates, so it figures. FRIGID. heh

The original page didn't load correctly for me, but did really make a mileage estimate based on 100 miles? Seems like if a reviewer is actually going to post the mileage, they would at least do a whole tank. Doing it on less just doesn't make much sense, even in just getting a feel for the vehicle.
I have a renewed interest in the Camry Hybrid, compared to my current 2006 Prius. - Similar sales price (here in Canada) - Camry Hybrid is essentially an AWD - with the HSD for the rear wheels, and a second electric for the front wheels - Winter driving conditions here in Quebec, the 4 wheel power of the Camry Hibrid is a huge plus - The better finish and comfort of the Camry Hybrid over the Prius - Similar MPG when driven the same When my lease is up in 2010 on my 2006 Prius, I will look hard at a Camry Hybrid...since the 2010 G3 Prius will be more expensive base price.
Sorry, the Camry Hybrid does not come in with AWD. It is only 2WD like the Prius. You are thinking about the Highlander Hybrid AWD, which is more expensive than the TCH.
Yet... 1. At the dealer, and the catalog, shows the Camry Hybrid with the HSD for the rear, and a second electric motor for the front wheels only. 2. The Toyota.ca website, when you choose the Camry Hybrid, then Motor, the diagram clearly shows the equivalent of AWD - rear and front propulsion. Yet this "spec" was left out of the review...
I honestly don't see what you're seeing. I went to the TCH page and clicked "Engine" (I don't see the motor option). I don't see a rear electric motor. Keep in mind that a 2WD HSD vehicle as TWO electric motors and a 4WD-i HSD vehicle has THREE electric motors. And that blue rectangular thing over the rear wheels in the diagram is the battery.
GRRR ! Look at picture, top is French, bottom is English. They even got Front & Back reversed !!! (Now I have a bunch of forums I need to post to that all said: told you so) Toyota weren't able to properly translate from English to French. Horrible job. Can someone lookup the Spanish version? In the French version, the inverter is the battery, and the battery is the front electric motor. Bummer, I was hoping for what I was posting, an AWD hybrid in a car. I looked up on CIRA.CA the Admin/Tech contact email for the website, sent them an email with the attached pic. I'll keep this thread updated. Who knows, perhaps Quebec French gets a AWD 2009 hybrid Camry that's not available anywhere else in the world.
