I too contacted WarrantyShack on line, 3 days ago, no reply.
I called Troy and left a message on his machine yesterday, no reply. I will try again later on today, since I am running out of time here with 35,250 miles.
Curious....does one have to prove the mileage on the car, and if so, how?

    AOV,

In my case 2 years ago when I bought the extended warranty from Troy for my 2005 Prius, we got up from his desk & went out to my car for him to physically verify the mileage on my odometer. But realize that I just dropped in on him there in Greenfield, Mass (up on a trip from Connecticut to visit the Mohawk Trail) & my car was already there for him to see. When he sells the warranties to people all over the country by phone, e-mail, & snail mail, I don't know how he verifies the mileage of those cars (or if he really NEEDS to).

I hope he gets back to you soon. Definitely call as soon as possible today (& maybe try tomorrow as well---I'm trying to remember if it was a Saturday when I dropped in). If you have to leave another message on his machine, then say it is URGENT because you're approaching the end of your factory warranty (& maybe even give your current mileage so he knows how close you are to the end).

    Thanks Ken for your input.
Troy did contact me yesterday, later in the day, did not need to leave another message. He also did not ask me again for the year and model, that information I left originally on his voicemail. We agreed, this Monday I will fax him a copy of my registration and handwritten mileage that the car has, plus my phone number, so when he receives the paperwork he will contact me again, for payment. He quoted $940.00 for 6yr/100,000 Platinum Warranty because I will reach the 100,000 mark before 7 or even 6 years are up. I would have taken 5 years, but they don't offer that.
Puzzled that my word will be good enough as far as the mileage reading is concerned, because, from experience, if you want to cash in your warranty, you need an "official" reading of the odometer, I would think the same would be needed to extend it. I guess not. In the meantime, better not go anywhere far, since now I have reached 35,400

    AOV,

Glad it worked out for you.

I guess if Toyota needed better evidence of mileage, you could hold the upper half front page of the New York Times or New York Daily News by the odometer and take a picture.

Thanks for posting the price of the 6 yr/100,000 miles extended warranty. Offhand I would have guessed that it'd be cheaper than $940. But I guess that for extended warranty pricing, the maximum miles is a bigger factor.

Looks like I waited too long for this. Troy just quoted the Toyota Platinum 7 yr / 100,000 mile Extra Care plan w/ $0 deductible for $1055.00. He said that the price increase was effective Oct 1, 2008.

Just bought a Prius on Friday (11-16-08) and was suckered into paying $1600 for the 7yr/100k Extra Care Platinum agreement. Does anyone know if I can cancel it and then get the much better deal offered on this site? Even if I have to pay an administrative fee, it looks like it would be well worth it.

Yes, you have 30 days to cancel it and get a full refund. Afterwards, the refund will be pro-rata. In both cases, there's a small administration fee.

But because you just bought it on Friday, if I were you I would go back to your Toyota dealer Monday morning to cancel. That way you might be able to get an immediate full refund because the paper work for the extended warranty may not have been sent out to Toyota Financial.

In any event, I would cancel in person because you're likely to be ineffectual if you try to do so by phone. When you're at the dealer, do not accept no for an answer. Yell and scream if you have to (it's what I had to do because the dealer was giving me a huge runaround about not being able to cancel at the moment). And I wouldn't leave the dealer without getting (1) a piece of paper evidencing the cancelation and stating the refund amount, and (2) if you can get it, a check or credit card credit for the refund amount (if you can't get the refund amount immediately, then make sure the piece of paper evidencing your cancelation expressly states that the refund amount will be sent/credited to you).

Once you've canceled, I would consider waiting until you approach 3 years/36,000 miles to decide whether to get the extended warranty and which one to get to match your past and anticipated future driving experiences.

Good luck. BTW, $1600 isn't a half bad price from your dealer, although you can get it here for $1055. My dealer initially tried to sell it to me for $2500.

Pround owner of a super white 2009 #2. We decided to buy the 8yr/120k for $1580($2950). I know Troy can do 7/100k for $1055. Does anyone know if this is a good purchase or should we cancel it? They also told us that Troy's warranty will have some sort of complications in California since he is in another state, blah, blah, blah. Is Troy's warranty good in all of North America? Thanks!

According to toyotafinancial.com, that's not a valid plan offered by Toyota.

    Inuyasha,

I can't tell from your post whether you paid $1580 or $2950.

In any event, it's not a Toyota plan. The longest plan offered by Toyota is 7 years/100,000 miles.

I'm not sure what your cancellation rights are. But I would recommend going to the dealer ASAP and demanding a cancellation and full refund.

Then I would wait until you near 3 years/36,000 miles to decide whether you want an extended warranty, and which one to get in terms of years and mileage.

BTW, your dealer is full of crap. The warranty sold by Troy/WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA for $1055 is a genuine Toyota Extra Care Platinum Plan 7 years/100,000 miles/$0 deductible extended warranty, sold and issued by wholly owned subsidiaries of Toyota Motors Company. Toyota dealers throughout the US (and I think Canada) are required to honor it.

P.S. Please do not mention the actual names of Troy/WarrantyShack.com/Toyota of Greenfield, MA or PriusChat.com to your dealer.

I am not clear if this option still exists. How can I find out what the Manuf. Warranty is still available through this site? I usually purchase one and in the past if I traded-in my car the dealer would give me a refund.

Does anybody know if this company that sells them to PriusChat members gives a refund if the car is sold before the 3 years is up?

    Thanks

Is that through the service that members mention on this forum or was that the amount you paid through the dealer?

    Thanks!

It was the amount we paid thru the dealer, who told us that it is only available thru them and nowhere else.

    Kooler,

    Re the legroom problem:

Maybe you can find a modifier who modifies cars and vans for the handicapped and tall people, who would extend the driver seat rails back 2 or 3 inches?

So when that dealer decides not to honor part of it for whatever reason, you'll be stuck. Cancel the damn thing and get a full refund while you still can. If you absolutely must waste money on an extended warranty, at least buy the real Toyota warranty at the best possible price.
