It certainly wasn't speculation that drove up oil prices. That's proven by the recent downturn in price. This temporary return to $60+ is due to slumping demand as the world economy goes into recession. Once the recession is over watch out! 100s of millions of people are entering the middle class as China and India grow their economies. That's what did and will drive oil prices higher. Only because of a near collapse of the entire world's financial system, the freezing of credit markets and the consequent recession do we have a temporary reprieve on oil prices. Enjoy it while you can.
You are right, enjoy it while we can. In Connecticut, a highly taxed state on gas, it is now around $2.16/gal and dropping almost daily. Haven't seen that in a while. Who knows how long it will last.
i took a trip up to va last weekend, it was $1.99 up there. still waiting for it to drop below $2 here, but i was quite glad to be able to fill up for $20 again.
I just paid $2.36/gal at local Costco. The last time I got gas last September it was $3.66, a nice drop.
$1.83/gallon here in Burleson, TX. About to upgrade to a new Prius, after driving for 10 years a 20 mpg Lumina. Weeeee!
$2.39/gallon in San Diego. I'm about 20 minutes from the beach Some places closer to the beach are still up in the high 2's. I saw 2.89 in Del Mar off the 5
Paid $1.59/gallon today to fill up the Tundra--if I had waited 10 minutes it would have been $1.58. This recession is going to be a doozy.
Wow, $1.58!!! That's less than I paid 5 years ago when I got my Prius. It was down to $1.74 at the local Wal-mart today if you paid with the gift card and I thought that was crazy low.
The lowest in our area that I've seen is $1.99/gallon. Off course this is the Mobil gasoline with at least 10% Ethanol, but I am not complaining at all.
I had to take a trip to Melbourne, FL from Jacksonville, yesterday..... I filled up yesterday morning at $1.939 at a BP just off interstate I-95 in Jax and at $1.899 (Mobil, though the BP across from it was $1.889) at another station in Jax when I came back into town. Gas is slowly going down here. (THINKING... that I will see 99¢ a gallon on this thread before long or a new thread for it.)
wow, i haven't filled up for $14 since we first got our prius. (i had 2 bars remaining.) gas was $1.89/gal. i came home and made myself a smoothie, i was so excited.
Dang, its still in the low 2's here. I saw $2.16 down the street as far as name brand goes. But there is allegedly some non name brand gas in the east county for under $2
$1.92 in this area. I'm using it to shower, as it is now cheaper than water. It's cheaper than milk too, but it didn't taste good on my morning cereal. Tom
Yesterday I paid 1.82/gal outside of Atlanta. Folks are getting there SUV's out of the backyard and driving them again since they couldn't get anyone to buy them.
$1.79 in Manassas, VA, yesterday. Costco, about 10 miles away, is probably cheaper. Who wants buy a Prius. New pri on the lot--used pri on the lot--many pri in local craiglist. I have a 06 for sale--help!!!! I've already bought a 08.
