I just had the oil changed last week. Yesterday, I noticed that when I start my car the "MAINT REQD" light flashes for a few seconds then goes out. The manual says "Change Engine Oil". Well, since I just did that, I'm hoping it just needs to have some sort of counter reset. If so, does anyone know a way to reset it myself without having to go back to the dealer? John1701a, don't you change your own oil?

    Help!

    Thanks,
    Luta

I had the same problem when I changed my oil. If you had the oil changed at your dealer shame on them for not performing the required reset. You can find this information in the maual. If you went to an oil change place that is unfamiliar with the Prius or did it your self you need to look it up in the manual. I can't remember exactly where I read it. But it only takes a couple of seconds to perform the reset of the console.

Make sure the ODO/Trip is in ODO mode.

From OFF, press and hold the ODO/TRIP button. With foot on brake push power button. Keep holding the ODO/TRIP and watch the Heads up display (where the ODO reads). Several little dashes will appear then the ODO mileage will reappear over a period of 5-10 seconds. Once that appears the Maint. req. is reset...it'll start flashing in 4500 miles and be on all the time at 5000 miles.

Sounds like efusco's response should be in the archives. I think this is a question that will be coming up again.

    Thanks Evan,

    That worked!

I had the Dealer change the oil, and they obviously didn't reset it. I was a little disappointed in the dealer's service all the way around. Maybe I'm spoiled by Saturn, they washed and vacuumed my car, even when it was just in for an oil change. Also, the Prius maintenance book says tires should be rotated at 5000 miles, they didn't do that, or even ask me about it. It was basically like taking the car to Jiffy Lube. They even call it their Express Lube. If I want more than an oil change I have to make an appointment with "master technician", and at the time I called it would have taken more than a week to get in. Is this the same at all Toyota dealers? (This is my first Toyota)

A while back a good FAQ went into Danny's "To Do" list, maybe we can get him to bring it to the top of the list...I think it is definately needed.

These are actually the kinds of things that I put together the Knowledge Base for - like a Prius FAQ and starting point for Prius Newbies. A FAQ is something that would be hard to keep up with and maintain since it would be under the control of one person, but if all of our membership base brought together their knowledge and put bit by bit articles into the KB then in the future the experienced members could just point the Prius Newbies to the KB for all of the most common questions.

A Knowledge Base article doesn't have to be a huge write-up like efusco's are when he takes on a big project - they can be something as simple as listing the steps on how to change the way your doors lock, or how to reset the Maintenece light.
