doesn't appear to exist in the Canadian models. At least for the output from the camera in, the hatch. There is a capped off wire connector, 8pin, but no shielded cable for the camera. Unless the camera output is sending the signal over a 24 guage wire, which I doubt, I'd have to say it's a no plug and play operation at this time.
It's a GREAT info, Frank. I'm pretty certain now that I can order Lexus Cam and install it MYSELF when I'll receive Prius next week. Free 8-pin connector means plug and play! See last page of the document: http://homepage.mac.com/boagh125/.Public/P...usBackupCam.pdf
Frank, how did you pop off the cover to the camera placement? It looks like some simple pressure might do it... but I'd rather not experiment break anything while trying to find out. Also, does anyone know what the whole on the front bumper (driver's side) is for? Could it be for a forward looking camera (ponder... ponder...)?
Hole in front bumper is where you screw in the tow hook...which hopefully you'll never need. I'd sure like some photos and details for locating and accessing this plug for the rear camera.
Cover is firmly in place. However, it's relatively easy to get access to the cam installation place. You need to take off Back Door Trim Board Assembly and then to detach Backdoor Garnish. 20 minutes work max.
to uncover the camera port you'll have to take off the inner panel and then unscrew the facia panel that is above the liscence plate holder to get at the inner screws and to mount the camera. Not sure if the pass thru port is there for the wiring or not, didn't look that close.

After search around and around for this, I would just to second this question. I can't find it anywhere!
It is actually two parts: 86191-48010 Terminal, Video List Price US$121.97 86790-48020 Camera Assy, Tele Price US$789.39
:cussing: Well those prices just shot any plans I had for a camera down in a swirling, firey plumet of doom. I can park just fine without it. Just out of wonder though, in case I happen to find 1000 pennies in my sofa, where would one order these? I'm sure others would be curious.
I noticed this description of the Lexus system in Consumer Guide. Is there any chance that such a feature is a dormant option in the Prius? Mark
xlarimer, thanks a lot for part nos. I'll check prices trough my channels and let you know. I thought that it should be cheaper. RobertO mentioned: "Dropped by the Lexus dealer today to check on the price for their NAV/Backup Camera combo; thinking it might slip into my '04 AM-7, $ 2,500 plus installation." Thought that NAV unit alone would cost $2K min. Video terminal (86191-48010) probably is necessary only for the cars without NAV unit as it has camera input port.
That is what I thought as well. I also noticed that the 4Runner has a camera option. The part number the Lexus/Toyota Service Parts guy gave me was: 86790-35010 And it had a prices of $702.22 Just food for thought. It also didn't have the Video Terminal.
Pretty confusing situation. Which part no. is really compatible with Prius? I would accept risk that cam is not plug-n-play, but I'm reluctant to shell $700+ and then realise that I've got wrong part. (BTW I've got price for 86790-48020 and it's 25% higher here in Europe) OK, now good news. I found after-market Toyota Backup Cam at: http://www.toyota.co.jp/dop-avn/option.html [Broken External Image]:http://www.toyota.co.jp/dop-avn/image/navioption_r5_c1.gif[Broken External Image]:http://www.toyota.co.jp/dop-avn/image/navioption_r5_c5.gif[Broken External Image]:http://www.toyota.co.jp/dop-avn/image/navioption_r7_c1.gif MSRP ex sales tax and installation JPY22000 is equal to USD 206 at the current rate of exchange. I REALLY LIKE THIS PRICE! Note: this cam is an OPTIONAL part of Toyota after-market Navigation systems and is compatible to every type mentioned there except 1DIN CD-based NAV. HOPEFULLY it's compatible with Prius NAV too.
I would go for a group purchase on this. Though, I'm suprised we haven't run across this outside of Japan.
