hmm.... very nice! But does that mean they've found a way to make the LEDs brighter thus using two sets of bulbs instead of three or does that mean they've crammed more LEDs into a single bulb housing?

who knows/cares? I am pretty sure a lot of it is design choice, they want to make it look different than normal HIDs...

Certainly it's a good thing that they are changing from the Yaris platform of the current-generation Prius to the Corolla platform with the 2010 generation.

People are so used to the looks of the current Yaris platform by now but once the new Prius with the Corolla platform arrives, people will like the looks of it much more. Much higher horsepower, 50+ MPG, and more room will also be pluses.

And if it turns out to be a NiMH plug-in car (Li technology not safe enough to be ready yet), many people won't even get their hands on it for a while, with long wait lists.

I kinda hear what you're saying, but Toyota went a little long on this generation - 6 model years.

comeon that its easy for a carmaker to do more models and remodels with automation than 20 years back will not mean that you have to putout a new car in 2 years time!

I am sorry but, how did the Prius which has been posted that it is based on the old Camry platform, suddenly become based on the Yaris platform. Where did you get that information? The Yaris is a much smaller car.

its always between 5 and 6 years... with Toyota's anyway... Prius got 6 years to recoup investment + it is one of the models with renewed effort in QA (RX being the first, launched in January)... they doubled the production testing to make sure cars are built good old Toyota way.

The current-generation prius has a modified Yaris engine (1NZ-FXE vs. 1NZ-FE of Yaris) and the front of the car looks like Yaris hatchback. But, certainly, Prius is somewhere between Corolla and Camry in size and Yaris is smaller than a Corolla.

According to the leaked picture, the front of the car is very similar to 2009 Corolla, except for the details of the headlights. It will also use a 1.8-liter engine, probably the modified version of the Corolla's engine. Since Prius uses a longer wheelbase with hatchback design, the interior size will be bigger than a Corolla.

    Regards,

    :)

That doesn't mean it's based on the Yaris platform. Engine and design are separate from a platform. In case you're not too sure, a platform usually means the chassis.

Prius has its own "platform" due to specific requirements... 1.8l engine goes to Yaris, Corolla, Avensis, Corolla Verso, etc, etc... all smaller platforms are made so toyota 4cly engines fit it to it...

    From edmunds.com:

"The third generation of the world's top-selling hybrid car represents a full redesign. The 2010 Toyota Prius is built on the company's global small car platform shared with the Toyota Corolla and Matrix, along with the Scion xB. Although the 2010 Prius has the same wheelbase as before, a wider track and a slightly longer body provide modest increases in passenger and cargo room. The car's coefficient of drag drops from 0.26 to 0.25."

I guess I was right after all that the 2010 Corolla and Prius share the same platform...

I'd argue that this info is wrong and that the Prius is a platform all in it's own. The rest of the Edmunds data on the 2010 is incorrect thus far as well.

Probably doesn't even matter. It's just a car.

so why are you posting about it if it doesnt matter? Its catch 22.. you downplay something and when someone replies you tell them to chill because it is just an car. Never saw that, really :).

Prius wouldnt use Corolla platform as it has significantly larger wheelbase than Corolla. In fact, Toyota says it is all new platform in their new PR.

But it is just an car, doesnt matter...

LOL, I'd invite anyone to go to any car enthusiast site, state the car of topic is "just a car", and NOT be labeled a troll. Clean cup, move down!

I'm not impressed. with all the competition on the horizon you would think Toyota would do a little better. Always hated that unsafe view restricting back window. One would think that would be one of the first things they would correct.

Toyota will evenutally catch on to that and when they do I'll trade my '06.

I honestly don't see how the bar can be "unsafe"?? Do you frequently have horizontal objects coming up behind you?

It's a psychological thing. Just because your vision is restricted by a line, you assume you can't see anything.

The bar helps block the headlights in the rear view mirror also.
