Our 2009 Prius is just over one month old. With the car switched on, if I turn the steering column right or left, I can hear a noise which looks like something rubbing against the column. The dealer has changed the yoke sub-assembly, shaft sub-assembly and the airbag cable, but the noise is still there. Another brand new Prius has a similar noise but at a lower level. Any similar experience or solutiion?
If the car is in Ready, and not moving, if I turn the wheel either direction I can hear the tires scrubbing on the concrete (I try to avoid this, BTW). Is that the same noise?
Yes I hear the exact same thing on my 07 too if I turn it lock to lock sitting. Its normal for our cars. Don't worry about it. When your driving you can't hear it though. When your driving you don't really turn the wheel that much or at least that quickly. I suspect there's quite a slip ring in there for all the steering wheel mounted electronics.
