I have an '04 with package #9. I think the #9 package was the ultimate option package. I do have a question, though. Next to the thumb switch to control the brightness of the dash, there looks to be a covered area for another type of switch. Does anyone know what this is intended for? Maybe a future upgrade?

    Thanks

I believe that is where the EV button is located on European models.

Correct. (As well as in Japanese models as well.)

This is what it looks like with the EV button instead of the blank:

Thank you very much for the info. Which, of course, sends me down another avenue. Why does Japanese and European Prii have the standard EV mode when we in the States need a mod? Excuse my laziness for not checking previous threads, but does anyone have a quick answer?

Thanks again to the great internet Prius car community!

Quick answer--difficulties with EPA standards. There is a lot of info out there on this, if interested please do a search.

You can start with my article in the Knowledge Base for lots of info and hints.

I was under the impression that the Japanese and European Prius models do not have a rheostat wheel dimmer switch to control the instrument lighting brightness; instead there is a push button near the MFD that cycles the instrument panel lights through several preset levels.

If I am correct, what do those models have located next to the EV button where we have the thumb wheel?

If it's RHD, the EV button's to the left of the wheel. I think there's only one button. If it's LHD, I'm stumped

Edit: I've found it. The second spot is for the manual headlight levelizer
