Motorola V710 Flash Upgrade Fixes All But Phonebook

I suppose we ought to be "grateful," and I'll get my 710 upgraded, but not having the phonebook feature is a major annoyance. Any word on a fix there?

Is there an alternate, maybe wireless way to load ringtones without buying them from Verizon?

I'm not sure the phones I like at Cingular will be available, and if I can get a V710 dirt cheap and without signing a new contract it might hold me over until later...

 

There will be a work around for a phone book thanks to Coastal E Tech and CoastalDave. The Nav modification will allow access to the destination pages. If you input a position and add a phone number to it you can use that to call. I have only a few places I would want to call out to. My Nav screen is going to look funny as they are the ER, L&D, main hospital number and my office all with in a 1/4 mile of each other. I guess I don't care that the screen will be junked up in that area I pretty much know how to get there by now and don't use it to get to work. I will have a phone book though. I will keep this phone till my contract runs out then dump Verizon.

There is some discussion on phonescoop.com about this problem. You can email a ringtone to your phone but it will cost 25 cents. Some people are talking about an email method that you cancel out of and the ringtone is still available. (I haven't been paying close attention) You can also get the upgrade and then hack the seem to restore the transflash transfer ability.

 

Just got the v710, and got the new flash installed.

Just love the fact that when hubby and I are driving together we can both talk to the person on the phone via the car stereo system - the huge speakerphone, so to speak...that is way cool.

Do wish the phonebook would transfer..

 

Got the v710 yesterday from my local Verizon store within a Circuit City and lo and behold the proper software load was already done. It worked in the Prius out of the box! Love it. The phone book is still a problem as the Prius asks for an upload but there does not seem to be any way to do it on the phone. I'll keep looking, but given that Verizon is far better than the alternatives in the last survey by the FCC, I'm glad I finally have the capabilties.

Well, for V710 owners, there IS a way to transfer your phonebook into the Prius....but you need another bluetooth device....either laptop or PDA. I will be happy to send you what instructions I have for either. The laptop instructions came from someone else, but I used my Palm Tungsten T PDA and it worked just fine.

Hello there -- I just got my prius this weekend, and I have verizon because it is the ONLY provider that works at my house. (I tested em all)

You say the v710 answers incoming calls... do you mean the phone itself rings, or that the car rings? This is a big deal for me as I usually listen to music or whatever and would prefer the car to ring.

The way it works for me is the V710, itself, rings and the audio mutes on the Prius during an incoming call.......no ring through the car's speakers.
