Looking to permanently mount a sirius antenna in place of the standard whip and its base. I've been searching and searching for a permanent antenna and have come up with very little so far. One option that I found is the Sirius antenna from Mercedes Benz (part# B6 783 0084) I was quoted $94 from the local dealer. I believe it comes primed for paint. Another option may be the antenna from the 2009 Tacoma, but I could not find enough information on it (no part number or price so far). Thinking that they may offer it pre painted in Toyota colors? If anyone has done this mod or can provide any insight on antenna choices / part numbers / pricing I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, -Wayside
I put mine inside the spoiler behind the 3rd brake light. Someone here made a nice thread on how to do it. You can also get a Sharkfin antenna from the Priuschat store that has enough room in it to cover the stock AM/FM antenna plus a Sirius antenna. They come prepainted also.
Thanks for the post. I'm pretty well committed to my original idea. Of course I had considered the 2 options that you had listed but reading mixed reviews on signal strength was enough to push me to look for a different solution. I will be trolling ebay for factory Sirius antennas. Wish me luck...
There wasn't much interest in this mod but I figured I would post up a pic anyway. I found this factory Ford sirius antenna on ebay, $15 shipped. It fit in the hole left by the factory whip base perfectly. I made a little bracket to secure the antenna from the inside. I cut the Ford connector and soldered in a antenna wire from an old magnet mount antenna I had laying around. The result is better than I could have imagined. It simply does not cut out anymore. Great reception and no more whip. Mission accomplished.
