    Alright!
I finally found a touring coming in a reasonable amount of time without a buyer in the Minneapolis area,
I ended up getting it at the dealer in St. Cloud,
I just put a deposit on an 09 Touring Package #2,
    In black with gray interior!

It was my 2nd choice color wise, but It will arrive in 3 weeks or so.
I had been making alot of phone calls to find one, and this one just popped up.

If anyone in the twin cites area is looking for a touring model, I did also find one at heintz toyota in Mankato, they have a black touring package 2 coming in the middle of december, but it had the bisque interior. Not so much for me, I like the gray much better.
They also had a spectra blue non-touring package 2 coming in soon as well.
That one was a close one, I really wanted spectra blue, but black is pretty nice as well.

    No waiting in California.

There is a surplus of Prius inventory. One of the dealer in the Sacramento area has 24 in stock. There is a total of 74 available from 5 local dealers.

I think you can get them at invoice+ now. You may save money to buy it here and drive it back to MN.

I saw half a dozen on the lot at Pasadena (CA) Toyota last week, and at least 1 touring model, a red one. The cars are available, you just have to look harder.

They may be availiable in CA, but in the midwest, they are somewhat hard to come by.
I have been calling every dealer in the minneapolis area, and most have said they get nex to no touring at all.
and orders are taking anywhere from 5-6 months for touring models.

I guess I don't see the advantage of flying to CA just for a car though.
Even with a cheap flight, I can't imagine the cost benefit outweighs the costs of the trip.

Plus the time of a 2000 mile trip, I drive semi trucks from time to time, and that is a tedious drive.... Figure 1-2 nights in a hotel room,
How much under MSRP are they really selling for in California?

Maybe I am wrong, and I haven't taken delivery yet, Please feel free to show me the error of my ways.

With the worldwide recession + gas prices now at the level they were a year ago, it wouldn't surprise me if the market changes soon (if it hasn't already) so that one will be able to get a Prius for near or below invoice.

From what I could tell, the sale prices of Priuses were at their lowest point around the end of 2007 through early 2008. During that period, it was pretty common for people to pay just a hundred or two above invoice, and I heard reports of some people paying below invoice. But keep in mind that you may have a harder time getting the invoice price for a Touring because of its desirability and limited availability.

According to Edmonds.com, the current national prices for a Touring Package 2 are:

    msrp
    $25,565

    invoice
    $23,514
    [IMG]

    what others are paying
    $26,767
    [IMG]

    Good luck.

Well, I am not quite so positive about the price of oil, especially since OPEC just announced they are going to cut production next month.
OPEC Cuts Output by 1.5M Barrels a Day - TIME

My gut instint tells me they are going to keep cutting production until the prices rebound to their former sky high prices.

Maita of Sacramento still has 24 prius in stock with 4 touring models.

    Inventory Search

You can get a quote from their web site.

One way plane ticket = 300
    gas at $3 2000miles/50mpg = 120
    two night motel = 150
    Total = 570

You should be able to get at least 2000 off MSRP for the Touring model.

    You are correct,
They do have 4 touring, but they all have a MSRP of 29K.
So they are a much higher package than I am looking for.
I realize I could call every dealer in california, and I probably could find a package 2.
But to me it doesn't seem to be worth the time, especially since I would have to find a buyer for my vehicle as well.
I know trading in is not the best way to go, and I am going to try to sell my car before I trade it in, but with the used car market the way it is right now, I am probably going to end up trading it in.
Thanks for your time and effort, I greatly appreciate it!
I understand you are just trying to help, If I manage to sell my current car, I will of course take a much closer look at flying to california for a car.
On a side note, I don't really understand why toyota keeps shipping prius to california, if they have dozens on the lot, and in the midwest they can't seem to keep any on the lot for any length of time at all.

If the current Touring situation in California is the same as it was last year, we're talking about the availability of Tourings with Package 6 only. That explains the high MSRP.

I'm a Package 2 guy myself, so I would never get a Package 6. If I had to, I guess I'd get a Package 3, but nothing above that.
