2009 package 2 Driftwood $ 1850.00 under list, why ?

Financing is a seperate deal. First negotiate the price of the car, then the loan. Check their numbers. What can you get elsewhere?

I don't know what is dynamic about the cruise control. There is no cruise control upgrade.

What does the preferred accessory package contain and do you want any of this stuff? This is not part of an option package and should not be included in the MSRP.

Wheel locks are an accessory & inexpensive and you won't get the 4 original lug nuts. Do not include in MSRP.

Is the reference owners portfolio a fancy pouch for the owners manual? If so, it's an accessory you don't need & IMO shouldn't pay for.

The rear bumper applique is a plastic film, an accessory & overpriced. Would you prefer the rubber piece?

I'm not sure you are getting as good a deal as you believe. Historically prices & demand soften as the price of gas falls. Demand has also been historically weak toward the end of the year. Fewer paying customers should also soften prices.

Your package 2 is a step above my 2006's package 3. You should be happy with the car. Don't pay for options & accessories you don't want or won't use. Negotiations should be done before the deposit is placed but is always worth a try. If you believe they can go lower, retrieve the deposit & walk. Interest rates will fall in the short term.

Simple. The dealer wants to sell the car, so the price is attractive.

We can only guess at the dealer's motivation.

 

My sticker for my car 2009 pkg 5 was $27,475 I paid $26,205. What it amounted to was 2% over factory invoice which is different from sticker. It was through a LA county offer that I ordered 3 months ago. But I saw several on the lot. I believe times are tough and they are only going to get easier to buy. Good Luck in whatever you do.

 

Out of curiousity, what did you finally agree to (pricewise)? how did the loan work out (interest rate and with whom). Details....more to get a feel for how soft the prius market is getting.

Personally, I (and I think a lot of others) think Package 2 is the best package. It's the sweet spot for safety features -- Vehicle Stability Control and Back-Up Camera -- plus it gets you the Aux Input for mp3 players and other audio devices.

 

Wow, this is an interesting thread. A dealer here near Milwaukee has 20+ 2008 Package #2s, all executive driven with around 20K miles. They are priced around 22,900-23,900 depending on miles, and I've been trying to determine what a "fair" price is for these cars, taking everything into consideration...lower gas prices, the economy, new cars coming a bit more available (I've gotten calls on new 2009 package 2 but the price was above MSRP so I didn't go for it). This is a chance I think to get a car in great condition at a fair price, but I was going back and forth on the package #2 (no JBL stereo, no HID headlamps)...my first choice was pacakage #4 but around here that means a wait and maybe not your first choice color. I plan on going over there tonight to drive one, I'm sure the headlamps and sound system are way better than my 2002 Honda minivan!!

I'm a Package 2 Guy, so I don't have actual knowledge about the JBL stereo or the HIDs, but for what it's worth:

(1) A lot of PriusChatters seem to think that the JBL stereo sounds bad. So much so that many have disconnected the center speaker that comes with the JBL stereo, and swear that it sounds much better that way.

The standard stereo doesn't sound either bad or great. But to me, it's very listenable.

(2) For some reason, when Consumer Reports tested the Touring Edition, it gave the Prius HIDs a big black circle -- its worst rating. I suspect that something may have been wrong with the test car's HIDs (maybe they needed adjustment), but I don't know.

On the other hand, Consumer Reports rated the Prius' OEM halogens as very good -- its second best rating. If you're still not satisfied with them, you can always get aftermarket halogen bulbs that are significantly brighter -- Phillips X-Treme Power, Phillips Vision Plus, Phillips Night Vision, Sylvania Ultrastars, Sylvania Silverstars, etc. But the negative about these brighter halogens is that they do not last as long as the OEM halogens. Personally, I put on the Phillips X-Treme Power bulbs. They're incredibly bright -- maybe 80% brighter than the OEMs. But for one PriusChatter, his X-Treme Power bulbs blew out after 6,000 to 8,000 miles. However, for another PriusChatter, his X-Treme Power bulbs lasted 16,000 miles even though they were used as daytime running lights and were therefore constantly on.

Yep. With gas prices now at around the same prices they were a year ago, and with the world economy at its knees, I would think that people should be able to start getting the Prius for "thisclose" to invoice. In early 2008, people were commonly getting the Prius at $100 above invoice -- or less.

You should use Edmunds or other similar site to find invoice, retail and common market prices of cars. Some of the sites, including Edmunds, have their quirks, e.g., at Edmunds if you price and punch in Toyota Prius you'll get the pricing for the Touring Edition first, so be careful.
