I'm reading the unofficial Prius manual and it mentions "B" mode but so far hasn't described how one engages this. It sounds very useful when going down steep hills.
If you look at the shift lever it has a "B" position - it's straight down from it's normal position. When the car is in D mode move the lever straight down to the "B" it goes into B mode. Nothing will happen when you go to B when the car is in P or R.
Here is one of the threads using the search feature: http://priuschat.com/forums/knowledge-base-articles-discussion/15824-what-b-mode-exactly-again.html
Moving the lever to any other position (D, N, P ...) will take your Prius out of "B" mode. Note that you will get lower MPG when using "B" mode as it uses "Engine Braking" to dissipate energy. JeffD
I thought B was Park? So you slide the shifter to the left and then push up for Reverse, down for Drive. And while in drive if you press down again you are in "B"? Where's park and neutral?
Park is the rectangular button with the big "P" on it. Neutral is when you slide the lever to the left and hold it there for ~.2 seconds; just like the diagram shows.
Oh, I was looking at this picture and expected Park to be on it. Thanks. http://z.about.com/d/cars/1/0/E/m/ag_07prius_shifter.jpg
