I am @ 29,500 miles & will need an air & cabin filter. Does anyone know where I can buy them @ a low price? I went to the local parts store and they don't carry them. I didn't call the dlr. as I'd be in sticker shock if I bought from them. All info is appreciated. Thanks.
Glad you reminded me- I order 2 cabin filters also. Jesse at Metro is very nice- I ordered a number of the Prius car pins from him to use a raffle prizes for the OC Prius Club...
I got a cabin air filter and an engine air filter from the Toyota Dealer, cost was nearly $100.00, never again Toyota, what happened to realistic pricing?
Do any Australian dealers have the concept of offering discounted parts over the web? The web prices offered by certain Toyota dealers in the US are US$13 for the engine air filter, US$15 for the cabin air filter, and US$3.29 each for oil filters when purchased in a case of 10.
I bought a Fram engine air filter for $14.99 at Kragen, reg. price, no coupon. The cabin filter is also listed, but was not in stock. As I recall, the last Genuine Toyota air filter was $20 something.
I bought a Bosch cabin air filter for my Prius at the local AutoZone. $28 for something that strongly resembles a small piece cut out of a 3M Filtrete A/C filter.
One caution about using aftermarket filters. I used Fram air filters for my gf's Infiniti. When the MAF sensor gave out at 100K miles, the dealer replaced it, then told me that if I didn't use a Nissan/Infiniti brand air filter, he would not honor the parts warranty for the sensor. he claims that the aftermarket filters ruin MAF sensors. Now I don't believe this for one second, but I don't want to spend the lawyer money to prove him wrong. So I wait until I get mail coupons from the local dealer, and go OEM. Cheaper than lawyers.
That is completely out of hand. My past experience with Toyota parts is that they are reasonable on parts that you can obtain in the aftermarket (filters, plugs, ignition parts, etc.) but quite expensive for proprietary parts (shift lever boot, battery holddown bracket, etc.) There are several dealers here in the US which offer discounted prices for internet orders.
I wouldn't use FRAM anything, their filters are crap! I'll be buying filters on line in future, but how do you know it is a genuine filter or a knock off copy? I like to use genuine air filters. I think Toyota prohibits dealers discounting parts on line in Australia which only makes the post office rich with over seas shipping.
This is the case here, the air filter and cabin filter are not available from anywhere but Toyota. I replaced the water-pump, timing belt, idler pulleys, alternator/AC belt and PS belt on my Camry with genuine Toyota parts 6 months before selling it, as all these parts are available aftermarket, Toyota was very competitive. The air filter for the Camry was price competitive also. I will if cornered use Ryco air filters but not keen on aftermarket oil filters.
If you are buying from a US Toyota dealer, you don't have to worry about knock offs. Actually, the oil filter carton now has a hologram sticker, I suppose this proves the filter is genuine.
While Fram's oil filters are definately not worth what they charge for them, their air filters are a fine quality item at a reasonable price. The air filter media is fairly thick, and the seals generally work well and are not deformed. I bought my air and cabin filters at Rockauto.com. I have bought many auto parts from them and they have great prices. It was a bit cheaper than metrotpn.com.
Here's a couple of options: One by PIAA: PIAA Twin Tower Cabin Air Filter :: Sigma Automotive One by BLITZ (its washable) Blitz Hybrid Cabin Air Filter :: Sigma Automotive
I got my air & cabin filters from Metro today. It was only 3 days also. I see they took 20% off of list price & there was no sales tax- just UPS charge of $6.75. Thanks for telling me about Metro!
cabin air flowpath questions: In which flowpath (recirc or outside air, or both) does the cabin air filter lie? I assume it lies just in the recirc flowpath, but want to verify with the experts out there. Anyone have a link or a file which illustrates the flowpaths and components (blower, filter, dampers, etc)? Thanks!
