newbie: gas and oil

I've seen them as reports on this forum. Sorry, don't remember in which section.

The Owners Manual states "Use Premium...87 octane rated fuel". They mean good quality "regular" gasoline. The term "Premium" is used in only a few countries to indicate high octane rating. For example, the Shell (and others) "top tier" gasoline is "Premium quality" regular gasoline. Toyota is part of the "top tier" movement.

 

Unfortunately, that's not really true. For one, Valero does import oil from the Persian Gulf region. For the other, there's no way to tell where the gasoline came from by looking at the service station brand.

In a particular region, most of the gasoline come from a few refineries. There's not necessarily a connection between the retail brand and the company that bought or refined the gasoline. The retailer will have the national brand's additive package, but the raw gas could have come from any oil company.

Who does this engine oil analysis and how much does it cost?

I'm on the westcoast of canada so our weather is identical to Seattle Washington.

If you are putting 44psi in your tires doesn't that do uneven wear in your tires then? I know rolling resistance is decreased but your tread wear will be uneven right?

I am getting 800km on 33 litres and the screen shows 4.1 km/100litres
I think it's pretty decent.

After reading about bladder stuff etc. When refuelling the pump shut off at 30 litres and pumped in another 3 litres by the time I was done.
I guess this isn't a good idea at all because overfilling is not good for the Prius supposedly.

Mu understanding is from information found on various stats, quoted throughout web from gov't to producer, New Jersey refinery of Valero does import from Saudi Arabia but West Coast does not use imported oil in its refinery source. Recently Valero has been acquiring many stations through out the West Coast and supplies then through various sources. All I can say is, Valero in negligible or no use of foreign oil is better than using majority of producers particularly CITGO which in US Stations evidently 100% Venezuela oil.

 

Fill 'er with regular. (I live here in Oregon, where they don't trust us to pump our own gas, which isn't a bad thing with winter fast approaching again).
And whatever oil YOU like, as long as it's in the recommended weights from the manual.

 

Toyota recently announced that they are moving to 0W-20 across the board.

In the July 1, 2008 Edition of Flashpoint, ILMA has announced that Toyota has officially decided to switch the recommendation on engine oil for certain vehicles from SAE 5W20 and SAE 5W30 to SAE 0W20.

ILMA reports that these changes will affect all Toyota brands, including Toyota, Scion and Lexus. The change will also appear in owner's manuals.
