warning lights

    Please help!I took my 2008 Prius T-spirit to a tyre shop to have one of the tyre replaced last week,but never informed the tyre guy how to drive the car.The guy then drove the car with the handbrake on.On getting my car back,I found out that some warning lights were not going off after the engine had started.These lights are VSC,handbrake,Large Triangle with exclamation in the middle,airgbag and the hybrid system warning light on the MID.I have since taken the car to Toyota but was told they could not find what caused the lights to be on.they then told me it will take at least 4 hrs to fully diagonise the error,Please any advice or any one with similar experience.

    Best course is to let them diagnose it. From this remove it's hard to say whether any real harm was done.

    And next time tell the shop that it's a foot brake, not a hand brake :_>

    Considering that several systems are showing warning lights, my guess is that the DC to DC converter (part of the inverter) has a problem. If you have access to a digital voltmeter, I suggest you measure the voltage across the 12V auxiliary battery when the Prius is READY. It should be ~13.8VDC. If it is much lower, then this is evidence that the inverter is bad.

    BTW, driving the vehicle with the parking brake on should not cause this failure.

    Re-Warning lights-Thanks Patrick for your help.I have check the inverter by what you suggested.The reading I got was 13.9v.Any further suggestion will be appreciated.Thanks

    Driving with the footbrake's on may create 'differential' speed between the front and rear wheels.

    My guess is the VSC system was input by these bad data and think the wheel sensors is bad (thus throwing the warning lights), or the VSC may need to be recalibrated again. Keep us posted on what your dealer said too....

    Pat, Helpful as you may be this is a new guy. You might tell him what you mean by that. He might not know that you mean complete restart it 3 times.

    That is unlikely. To create a differential in speed between the front and rear wheels you would actually have to be dragging the back wheels slightly. The wheels would actually hop if this were the case and it would be VERY noticeable. The parking brake does not have enough holding power to keep the wheels from spinning when the vehicle is under power.

    Hi brwnjr82,

    The best approach would be to have your dealer retrieve the DTC logged so that you can see what the problem is, since your car should be covered under warranty. If you do not wish to do this or if you want to DIY, then the next best approach would be for you to obtain an OBD-II code reader that is rated to be compliant with Toyota CAN, to see if you can identify the codes yourself.

    If neither of the above appeal, then my final suggestion is for you to disconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect and see if the warning lights persist.

    I had the same happen to me a while back,dash was lit up like a Christmas tree including the triangle of death after my wife reversed it out of the driveway to get her car out......."Wth did you do to my car"was my reaction but by just powering the car ON and OFF with BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED a few times sorted it out......I still don't know what she did...probably reversed it out and drove it back in with foot brake on:confused:

    The VSC is sensitive enough to detect the F/R wheels speed differential and cause errors, even when it's not in the 'wheel-dragging' kind of condition.

    Still, if the footbrake (the drums) are strong enough to hold the car on inclines I don't see how it cannot be locking up the rear wheels if needed to be. Given the car's weight distribution is over 60/40 (lighter butt, wheels lockup easily in short distance) and with 295lb-ft 0-1200rpm of starting torque from its electric motor, Prius is not exactly 'underpower' from stand-still to sprint.

    Hi Patrick,
    A guy came today to diagonise the fault on my Toyota today,he obiously did not have the right software for prius,but he tried the corrola one on the car and came a fault in the name (C1310 Fault in HV sytem/ACTV BRAKE BOOSTER SOLENOID).I kind of thought that since the light warning began when the car was driven when the handbrake was on.Any idea what part of the car the solenoid is located?Many thanks.Please, any help is appreciated .

    On at least two occasions, I have driven short distances -- <100 ft. -- with
    the emergency (hand/foot) brake engaged. A very short period in reverse,
    then forward travel. This happened on concrete and asphalt/macadam surfaces,
    and there were no indications that the rear tires were slipping.

    As I recall, all I got was the brake warning light and some beeping. Released
    the brake and no further problems. Such a simple and anticipatable error alone
    should not cause the catastrophic result reported here. So, I'm trying to
    puzzle out if there's some special condition(s) involved in this case.

    brwnjr82, Is is possible that the floor of the garage was either painted or so
    greased up that the rear wheels were locked up yet due the forward weight
    bias the front wheels had traction? I can see where this condition would
    cause a great discrepency in the distance travelled reported to the CPU(s).

    You never said whether the tire/tyre that was worked on was in the front or rear.
    Is it possible that a speed sensor was somehow damaged?
    Could this have occurred from over-tightening the wheel mounting bolts resulting
    in warping of a rear drum?

    Thanks so much Rokeby,The tyre replaced was the front L/H side wheel.I am currently studying the web site below to see the connection between the brake and the hybrid sytem ,but if you read my last post,I posted that the DTC code given so far is C1310 FAULT IN HV SYSTEM/ACTV BRAKE BOOSTER SOLENOID .Thanks one more for your help.http://www.hybrids.ru/PriusNHW20/rm/rm1076e/m_05_0750.pdf

    brwnjr,

    Please be assured that I don't, and can't, take exception to the trouble code
    that you are reporting.

    I'm having trouble accepting that the amount and type of damage that you
    are seeing comes from an experience that I have had at least twice with no
    apparent negative outcome.

    The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to believe that the folks at
    the garage a telling a big, fat, um, er... fabrication, using the warning
    lights they saw as the point of departure from reality.

    I wonder what really happened in the garage, or on a test drive.

    how far did they drive with the e-brake and at what speed?

    your brake system is going to be a little bit different than ours over in the us because we have rear drum brakes and you have rear discs. the parking brake here works on the rear wheels.

    i highly doubt that the wheels were locked during driving- the e-brake can hold a car on a hill but not against acceleration. more likely something overheated, but that depends on how far and how fast they drove it...

    DTC C1310 Malfunction in HV System. According to my repair manual, this means that there is a fault with the hybrid control system (this is unrelated to the brake booster solenoid). The hybrid vehicle ECU should also have logged DTC to show what is wrong with that system; apparently the code reader that you used cannot retrieve those codes.
