Might anyone have any info as to whether Prius will introduce an SUV type vehicle for 2010? Should we expect only a sedan as they've done thus far?
It looks like they will be bringing out the updated hatchback and a Lexus model. Since they already have the Highlander Hybrid, why would they want to compete agaist themselves?
there will be Prius and larger model for Toyota, and larger model for Lexus (larger models might be very similar)... Thats what we know, for next year. as to the SUV, you got Highlander, and new RX450h is coming too. Maybe Rav4 will eventually get it too? Who knows what else, eventually.
omg i cannot wait like that is going to be the best car ever better then a honda civic (allreadr the beset"
I'm referring to a Prius Line SUV model. I thought I'd read somewhere that Prius might eventually wind up with an entire line of vehicles. The Highlander is not particularly fuel efficient as compared to the Prius. A RAV4 Hybrid, with Prius efficiency, would be most welcomed. I'd sell my Honda CR-V.
you wont magically get fuel economy if it is called Prius... If it has AWD, is bigger, heavier, worse aero, bigger engine to move it all, then certainly you wont be getting prius mpg...
I was in my local Toyota Dealer yesterday, salesman saw my car in the workshop[he checked the mileage and saw my new turn signal mirrors with autofold]came into me to have a chat,he told me there was a new Prius due mid 2009 along with a people carrier hybrid and a complete new range of Toyotas,He said the Prius would have improved MPG but was a bit vague about just everything else....we'll just have to wait and see!!
Exactly. It's like asking for a Camry SUV. Prius is a model, not an engine. Toyota already has several SUVs using the same hybrid system that the Prius uses, but they get mid-20s MPG because they're heavy, AWD in some cases, and much less aerodynamic. Hell, the Camry Hybrid gets 10-15 mpg less than the Prius when driven identically, even though it's almost as aerodynamic, simply because it's heavier.
It's likely that we won't know anything for certain until the CEO makes his announcement in Detroit in the beginning of Jan. Toyota is notoriously tight-lipped about these things unless they want leaks. I'm nearly certain that the RAV will not get a hybrid option simply because it will compete with the Escape hybrid. I originally thought that they would make a small Prius to compete with the HCH/HI-II, I don't think so now. I do think that they will unveil a new unibody truck hybrid. They may also surprise us with a Venza hybrid which would make great sense production-wise and competitively. A Sienna hybrid ( or NA Estima hybrid ) also makes great sense. Both the truck and the van segments need a boost of excitement.
