Touchscreen says AC disconnected and side panels not responding

    hello,

    I have a problem with my touchscreen. It is responding with delay, or not responding at all sometimes. Or it indicates that the AC is disconnected.
    Also I have package #8 and it seems that the gps, and maintenace boxes on the touchscreen is on is not there anymore (like they disappeared).

    If the touchscreen is on info then it sometimes blanks out where the battery is all white, no mpg rating etc.
    In conclusion i also have no outise temp reading etc....

    Anyone seen this problem before????

    What you are experiencing may be your 12 v battery about to quit. If your
    2004 still has its OEM battery it is most likely time to get a new one. Other
    Classic owners report 4 yrs as a common time for needing replacement.

    that's the classic "dreaded mfd failure" found in the 04s. you can get a remanufactured unit for ~$600 plus install from the dealer. i don't know if anyone else is officially in the business of rebuilding them outside of that.

    To galaxee or dogfriend,


    driving the car with mfd failure should not be a problem???????


    600 dollars is to expensive.. hope the dealer says otherwise. or i will attempt to fix myself...

    I don't have direct experience (I have only read about it), but I would think that eventually the PITA factor will make you want to fix it, even if it doesn't stop the car from running.

    I would get the dealer diagnosis to be sure, then I might try to find a salvage part. Make sure if you get another one to get the new improved version (Hobbit included the part numbers on the page I linked above).

    it's far cheaper for the ~$5000 some dealers try to charge for a new one. you won't find it much cheaper than $600 or so for a remanufactured unit at the dealer.

    oh, i see steve at autobeyours has a rebuilding service now- DISCOUNTED INSURANCE SALVAGE

    yeah you can drive it, but you're going to lose some function- a/c control most importantly.
