I don't know if anyone has heard about the want to build a toll road through San Onofre State Beach which would look something like the images below. The hearing was actually today at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, I didnt have a chance to go but some of what I heard was that one speaker that is for the road said "SanO is on US state property and that we, the people of the state of California don't own it and shouldn't have a say"

Personally, I think the State of California should get to decide, it's already been stated by the California Coastal Commission that there will not be roads built through state parks. This shouldnt be a national question unless someone has the chance to make some nice pocket change. By building this road, the campground would be no more, the beach would lose a lot, if not all its visitors cause honestly, who wants to visit a beach right next to a busy freeway.

Actually, if it's on state property then we, the people of California, DO own it and DO have a say.

And I say no for the same reason I'm against the current plans for Sempra Energy's Powerlink. There are better ways.

As for the Onofre toll road....it isn't needed. And there is no reason to hand over state park land so a private developer can make a buck.

    Amen!

I am also against Sunrise as well.

Sad thing is, it seems that these days every action has some big shot politicians or businessmans best interests in mind instead of the people its supposedly helping:(

Hey welcome to BIG Government libs!
The road is going to be built and should be. The reasons given against it are at most transitory, i.e. drainage and sediment are only a factor during construction and for a limited time after until natural vetch restores the flora of the area and some rat thing will probably have more places to live and hid and protection from predators that will have a harder time to eat it due to the road.

The road is necessary to improve traffic flow (which significantly lowers pollution from a vehicle) and for access and egress from the areas served for the increasing populating. (I5 would be a nightmare if the area had to evacuate for any reason, wildfire, nuke accident. More likely a fire since they happen every other year or so and there has never been a nuke accident at SO which required any evac.)

We need robust investment in walking & bicycle routes, light & high speed rail - in the right places. Continuing the worship of autos in 2008 is inappropriate and a waste of time & energy. The Coastal Commission has spoken. It is very bad behavior to continue pushing for more pavement, especially through a state park. No new freeways! We need cost effective human-centered transportation, not autocentric transportation.

Its like the new express lanes they opened in the center of I-15 from Ted Williams to RB Road. We really need 4 more lanes for "express" commuting. I think it would be a lot easier to just tear out the current Fasttrack lanes, and put in a light rail that goes from the Qualcomm/Mission Valley Area up to Escondido with stops at the major spots such as Ted Williams, RB Road, Carmel Mountain Road

They're also expanding the existing 15 in the areas from Miramar Road to Ted Williams.

How often have your driven that route?

I have. Toll road isn't needed.
