Here's a question I don't think I've seen in any of the forums. Does putting your car in neutral when going down a hill hurt the car in any way and if it is okay - will that help me get better gas milage.
See if any of these answer your question: http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/29428-neutral-downhill-safe.html http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-m...h-electric-vehicle-mode-mod-observations.html https://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/6122-04-prius-cvt-problem.html http://priuschat.com/forums/knowledge-base-articles-discussion/15984-use-neutral-during-warm-up.html http://priuschat.com/forums/fuel-economy/9863-neutral.html http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-main-forum/23549-what-purpose-n-neutral.html http://priuschat.com/forums/fuel-economy/34849-neutral.html http://priuschat.com/forums/fuel-economy/50980-confessions-pseudo-hypermiler-2.html
Its fine won't hurt anything. If your doing this to increase your mpg you need to be in warp neutral first then shift into N. Glide down the hill, I don't shift back into D until my speed has dropped below 40 mph, actually I usually don't go back into D until around 20 if noone is around.
Neutral is the one reason I hate to give my car up to full service car washes. Put it in N and it goes triangle before it gets out of the wash tunnel and the wash guys have no clue what to do or how to act.
