Anyone see this on CNN Live? There's a 5-minute video clip of Lutz driving the Volt onto a rotating stage. Sorry, no direct link available and gm-volt.com seems to have crashed. There was no new information in the video, only the claims we know so far: 40 mile battery range, with a gas engine range extender.
The GM-Volt site is up, for me, but I can't find the video anywhere. CNN.com is funky and I can't seem to get anywhere except the home page. Would like to see the video if anyone finds it.
Ok, it looks like they're rebroadcast the entire live webcast of the unveiling at noon Eastern time: GMnext Day Global Broadcast | GMtv
Here's another link from 8:30 EDT: http://gm-volt.com/2008/09/15/live-gmnext-global-webcast-starts-916-830-am-est/
Nice looking car. I would love to see some shots of the interior and whatever their version of the MFD is. I saw this on another site. Basically someone Photoshopped different colors on the Volt. Kind of interesting to see what it looks like in different colors... 2011 Chevy Volt - colors - Autoblog
Great looking car! I don't particularly like the front end, but it is distinctively Chevy. Let's see the dollars, delivery dates and performance info. For everyone's sake, I hope this car succeeds. DCCLXXVII
I like the futuristic interior (though not the white color of the center console) and dual LCDs...very much like a modern airplane cockpit. The styling visible in the hires photos is nicer than I expected from the early release photos.
Can't wait to buy one! I'm 8,000 something on the gm-volt waiting list, so hopefully GM works with that list a little bit. I can't hold on to my current car forever.
It's interesting to see the sentiment here turning to positive. I think the Volt looks awesome and it's encouraging to see GM being progressive in their design (the interior is bonkers) as well as the technology.
I think you'll find that the sentiment toward GM is still pretty negative...I don't trust them, but remain optimistic that they'll change. There are a vocal few that are very negative about the Volt...but honestly I think it's just people that refuse to forgive GM or to believe that they can change. I'm mostly positive about the Volt. I like the idea, I like that it's another step toward fossil fuel free roads, I like that it's a step toward full EVs. But it's very unlikely I'll ever own one...4 seats won't do for my family of 5 and that's a major disappointment to me. The price has crept up as well, putting it well out of reach for many. The excitement is well founded and I'm a supporter and most definately want the Volt to be a major success. But I'm also a skeptic and a realist and have some lingering doubts about the car's ability to penetrate the market place and GM's commitment to advanced technology.
I love my Prius and I will keep it as long as it goes... but I would love a fully electric car. I can't be one of the first for this car, just as I could not be for the Prius. But I sure hope my next car can be a rechargeable electric with the capability (when necessary) of more extended range. I wish you great success Chevy Volt!
0-60 in under 9 seconds according to the CNN article. And I saw on autobloggreen.com that they're going to do a trial run on the production line with 40+ cars during the rest of the year to work the kinks out of the production line.
I'm not encouraged by the 360-mile range they are now shooting for. I'd still want 450 miles or so before even starting to look for gas. Maybe that 2014 Prius is still a go. Ummm, unless THAT tank shrinks...
