Lurker - First Question - Undecied on Prius.

Blue, I'm in the progress of switching from a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8 to a Prius

 

well i was in a position where i didnt have to trade in my old vehicle, but now i kinda almost regret it because they offered me more than i could get on the open market and i have only driven it twice since i got my Prius and hated to do it both times.

if you are looking for performance, keep the car. if you are just looking, get rid of the car, the Prius will keep you in "wow cool" mode for quite a while. it is different enough to where it will fuel your desire to learn more about the car and to find its limits and sweet spots.

 

Sounds like you've made your decision and are done with having a quick car for now. You can always get another when the kids are older.

Well, if you keep your STi and insure it as a third car (weekend & <5,000 mi driven per year), your insurance shouldn't be that much.

I feel your pain though. ITR ranks 32 out or 35 (I think it's out of 35) on the scale. It costs more to insure an ITR than a NSX or 993 Porsche. :crook: It's ridiculous.

I hope you can find a Prius soon. Hate the dang wait & looking for the right one.

I traded a Mini Cooper S in for a Porsche 996. A month later I bought the Prius. Now I do all my commuting in the Prius. The only time I ever drive the Porsche anymore is for open-road trips (took it to Mammoth last week, wheee!), or if I know I'm going to be working weird hours and won't get stuck in traffic. If, on the other hand, I'm driving to LA, I'll pick the Prius every time. It's just so damned civilized.

If your daily commute is through winding, twisty, back-country roads, you know, something you'd see on a Vermont travel poster, yeah, you'll probably miss the STi. The Prius handles pretty well, but... let's be serious, they're not even in the same league when it comes to handling.

I say this to be realistic, not to knock the Prius. I love my Prius and I look forward to driving it every time I get in it. It's definitely a different kind of driving than afforded by the Mini (or the Porsche), but it's enjoyable just the same.

Also, as others have suggested, you could always get the Prius now, and buy some sort of a fun & cheaper-to-maintain toy later (a used RX-7, for example) if you wanted to.

 

LOL. My insurance on the Evo cost as much as a Lancer ES 4dr.(which is a cheap car) :mrgreen:

I've been driving my 2004 Prius for over a year now and I love it!!! No regrets here.
