Bought a 2007 and a 2008 last year at City Toyota in Daly City, purchased via our Credit Union's fleet program, salesman was Elias Jammal. He was able to source vehicles matching our exact requirements when no one else from SF to Gilroy could source a Prius of any kind. Price was great and the deal was simple, customer service first-rate. Highly recommend a fleet program purchase if it's available to you.

I actually belong to Credit Union but I haven't tried that route to purchase a car. I heard about City Toyota good deals.

If dealing with the usual sales jive isn't your thing ("I'll have to go ask my manager if we can actually lose money on a sale like this....you're taking the food from my children's mouths, but I like your face...."), then the fleet thing is probably for you. It certainly worked for me.

Basically, the price is the the price, you don't negotiate, it's set by the fleet program, and in my case, it was a very, very good price indeed.

My understanding is that frequently a sale, after the usual hour or two of the dance, gets to the point where there's agreement, and only then does the dealer find out that the prospective buyer can't get credit for a loan. More time is then lost trying to find someone, anyone, who'll grant a loan in order to save the sale, and at the end, they may have lost several hours worth of time on a sale that can't close due to credit issues.

The fleet purchase thing avoids this since the credit union is guaranteeing to the dealer that the buyer is solvent. In return, the fleet pricing seems to be more than competitive, and it sure seemed as if the fleet manager was first in line for allocation.
