So I'm driving my new (less than a week and under 200 miles) Prius to work. It's a 45 mile drive most of it out in the country on two lane highway. Well I'm about 10 miles from work and out of no where an opossum decided to commit sucide by jumping in front of my new car. Not much I could do but wince. Thud and it didn't seem too bad. But I could hear something scraping on the ground. Had to drive a about a mile to get to a place that had good light. Car seems fine, but there is a cowling underneath the car that is destroyed. I'm going to try and take it to the dealer and have them remove it and order a new one. Could have been worse, could have been a cow, horse or deer. Wedge
I've hit a deer, my brother's hit a cow and I know someone who died hitting a horse. It really could have been worse.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Great response!! I know people who have been in trouble by hitting a bottle.
some insurance companies consider hitting an animal a comprehensive claim and not a collision claim, so if your deductible was low enough you could try turning in the claim with them. and comprehensive claims will not raise your rates
x2. I hit an elk about 15 years ago and it was as you said. American Family Insurance actually used the phrase, "an act of God" in a letter to me and my premiums did NOT go up.
Got a better look yesterday afternoon in the light. Just the wheel well cowling. New one ordered. Could be here as early as Friday. Have many things to do Friday so if it is I'll wait till Monday morning. Couldn't find the little sucker on the road coming home yesterday afternoon. Oh and it's only going to cost $175.00. Not too bad.. No reason to even tell the insurance.. Wedge
maybe you will find the little sucker ground up in the electric motor, hopefully you will be able to make a claim then, haha
