First off, I am impressed that Toyota has every SSC update in their central computer. Mine has been to 3 different dealers and the tech showed me the on-screen record.

I inquired about getting the TSB EL010-04 (fuel gauge inaccuracy) finally done on my car and was also suprised to learn that my fuel filler pipe had been replaced before I even picked up the car when it was new (on 10/5/03)!

Apparently they had some sort of problem with the shape of the original pipe - something about not being able to fit nozzles in properly.

Looked around for info, didn't see any. Someone may have already reported this...

Yes TIS is a big help to us techs. Every used car gets checked for outstanding SSC's and when I get a customers Toyota in for a recall,I can input the VIN and find out if it has any other recalls not completed. To sit down and go thru the TIS would take a whole weekend, maybe. There is a wealth of info on there. :)

10/2003? I thought the fuel tank problem came out way after that.

Yes that is odd,DanMan. The TSB EL010-04 for that didn't come out till Aug 24,2004. Then again this is a revised TSB I'm looking at. Not sure when original one was released. Maybe his dates are wrong? Or it was done before the TSB came out? Makes you wonder  But then with a prod date in 03,it must be a very early one, which would mean he got the filler pipe and new meter assembly.

That was my question (or realization).

There was some sort of filler pipe issue before the TSB came out. Picked the car up in 10/03 (manufacture date 9/03) and the work was done right before pickup.

My VIN still places me under the TSB and I have to have another filler pipe/meter put in (I still have the inaccuracy).

Hi Ben,I'm sure you know that the TSB you have a link to has nothing to do with Fuel filler pipe issues  It has to do with 04-05 Check Engine Lights on with "No Start" issues.

I had the TSB EL010-04 done Saturday. They ordered the gauge set to 22,000 miles, so I gained back about 290.

First fill-up Sunday, and I couldn't judge how much was needed since the MPGs reset during the install. Gauge had 3 bars, and I tried listening near the now-gasketless opening for gas to gurgle up, but some kinda quietly poured out before I could stop it.

Another learning curve, I guess, and hopefully better refueling stops as time goes on...
