We've delayed putting our deposit down and ordering our first Prius mainly because I've been hemming and hawing over the color. We pretty much drive a car until the wheels fall off, so I'll be living with this color for a long time. Anyhoo...I thought I'd decided on Mag Grey. Then, after seeing more Prii on the road, I decided I wanted a brighter color. Hubby nixed Driftwood and White. So...I thought I'd decided (based on web pics) on Seaside Pearl. Yesterday as we pulled into Costco, hubby exclaimed "Prius! In the light blue!" so we hurridly parked to go observe the color in person. I thought it was a light blue, but I swear this Prius had a distinctly purple hue to the blue color. It almost looked like a light purple jelly bean. So, it's now got me back on the fence about color. Did I maybe see an old Prius color instead of the real Seaside Pearl they use now? Were my eyes playing tricks on me? Or is there really a purple hue to Seaside Pearl. Please help! Once I decide *for sure* we finally put in our order.
I have the seaside pearl as well and I don't see any purple in it. When I ordered my car I said no red or black and my first choice was the seaside pearl or gold. I was so pleased that my frist choice was what came in. One of these days I'll get a pic posted. There are several folks here on priuschat that have the color so take a look and see what ya think. Congrats on what ever choice you make.
Thanks!!!!!!!! I think I'm going to stick with the seaside pearl then. I figured if there was a purple hue that it would have shown in at least *one* of the pics I'd seen online. Definitely helps to get your feedback! I guess I was imagining things...DH said it didn't look purple to him. I guess we'll be off to the dealer soon! Woohooo!
You may have seen a bunch of Seaside Pearl's on the road that are faded or dirty. It's a nice mid-range blue when in good shape.
I bet you saw a Prius in the NEW blue, the name escapes me now. It's a new color starting with the 08's, it's much brighter (Neoniske) than Seaside Pearl but seem to show the dirt more than Seaside Pearl.
I believe you might have seen one in the Spectra Blue Mica, which depending on the sun/shade angles might have hints of purple hue in it. I have seen only a few in passing around here, not a bad color. You could check out Toyota's website but the colors are not shown in their full "light". Try searching here or looking at the thread entitled " Newbies - Let's See Some Pics!".
It didn't look dark blue enough to be the Spectra Blue...but maybe it was. Looking through the Newbies - pics thread, I'm sure now that it wasn't the seaside pearl. Time of day was about 2pm, so lighting was pretty good. I've gone from silver pine mica > silver > magentic grey > barcelona red > seaside pearl. I've nearly driven my poor husband crazy debating it. But, I think I'm finally ready to commit...mostly b/c I want my Prius!!
I have a Seaside Pearl and in different lights, the color looks different. Sometimes it does almost look like a periwinkle blue color to me.
GAH! You've pushed me back up on the fence. I think I'll wait till I see another in person. Unfortunately I don't see a ton of Prii around here...maybe I'll have better luck "prius stalking" when I visit my folks in Raleigh next weekend.
Ohhhh... sorry! If it's any consolation, Seaside Pearl is a very pretty color! I wanted Barcelona Red, but bought the Seaside (it was on the lot versus having to wait for the Barcelona) as my second choice in order to get my HOV carpool stickers. I've been very happy with it.
 I can see the purple also it looks like a blue with pearl sprayed over!:rockon:We chose the red C. :bolt:metalic it also changes color.
I think you're making reference to Spectra Blue which is dark blue introduced for the 2008 model year.
lovemygreys, I predict that if you buy the Spectra Blue you will change to "lovemyspectrablue" BTW I see no purple in mine just a nice calming blue. Good luck,
I was going for a red one also but the ones the dealer had did not have the #6 package. So I settled for the Seaside Pearl instead. I am very happy with the color. Here are some photos of it. PriusChat Forums - strieby's Album: 2008 Prius Photos
Perhaps this will help! Super White is the most practical in this southern heat but it’s sooo white. Classic Silver Metallic is pretty but silver cars are so abundant. Magnetic Grey Metallic and Black are both elegant, but get so hot in the south. Driftwood Pearl and Silver Pine Mica are pretty colors too, but tough colors to match with accessories. Spectra Blue Mica is really sharp, but shows the dirt. Barcelona Red Metallic is hot, sexy, beautiful, but red can make the driver more aggressive, could induce lower mpg or more tickets or more children. Gee! I guess that only leaves Seaside Pearl, a nice light relaxing color, easy on the eyes, unique color, doesn’t show the dirt, easy to match accessories' colors, encourages non-aggressive driving. I don’t see where you have any choice. That‘s why we picked it, and we’re sticking to it. Disclaimer: Now, before anyone gets offended and thinks I’m knocking their colors, this is only an attempt at levity. Color, while there can be practical issues, and at one time auto insurance was higher on red sports cars and red high performance cars, is a 100% personal choice. So please, Beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder.
I can't imagine you saw a Spectra Blue, because I can't imagine anyone calling it a "light blue" because everyone (literally everyone) calls it a dark blue. I think you saw a Seaside Pearl. Most colors, including Magnetic Grey, look different in different light. There is or was a color called Light Purple Metallic (Paint Code 8K2). But it wasn't a U.S. color.
If you look at my picture profile album for exproducer on my Prius Convertible you will see some pictures of Seaside Pearl. It is a light blue but no purple sheen. Initially in a description when the convertible was reviewed and posted thousands of times, the color noted on the convertible on the posts is Wave Line Blue including what was told to me by a salesperson. It is Seaside Pearl. It polishes up very nicely with Formula 113.
