    Hi -

I'll be taking delivery on my new '08 Spectra Blue Mica #5 later in the week... as long as Fay doesn't get in the way.

I've searched around, but haven't seen many suggestions for the best wax to use for SBM. I thought I saw some reference to a "clear" wax - it would be nice to find something that doesn't leave those pesky white marks when you miss buffing off a bit.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks!
    Rob

The best wax for SBM is the best wax for any color.

In my opinion, nothing comes close to Klasse products using a Porter-Cable polisher.

    I'm a Zaino girl :)

Any polish that protects will do... technique is probably more important than product, when you are looking at the various flavors of polishes.

Put a clear bra on that Prius, if you can. That will cut down on the dreaded rock chips on the front end. Polish early - polish often.

Not to beat a dead horse, but it drives me nuts. Zaino is not a polish, it is a polymer sealant. They choose to call it a polish...but it is not.

    Check out www.autopia.org

For the SBM I would use a carnuaba personally, or a carnuaba over a sealant like Zaino or Klasse if you must. Pinnacle Souveran would be my first choice...

I have a Spectra Blue that I got in June and just a couple weeks ago I put on something called "Rejex" that I read about on these threads. It is not a wax but a polymer sealant. It gave the car a beautiful shine, and now the car feels like silk to the touch. It is supposed to make bugs and such easier to wash off. It wasn't too much work to put on and buff off. And it didn't leave behind a bunch of white residue.

I've washed the car once since I put it on and the bugs did seem to wash off easier.

Just remember - process is MUCH more important than product. :)

I agree Brad. Always clay the car after a wash for the first application. In fact I use Dawn detergent the first time to completely clean off any old product. Then clay then wash w zaino wash, then zaino then Z7 then Z5 or Z2 then more shiny stuff.

    Makes a pretty end

A good sealant/glaze and a good pure carnuba wax (not cleaner wax) will give you that "pop" and "wet" look you're looking for.

Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by "clay?" Never heard of it.

    Thanks for all the suggestions!

Does anyone have a problem with using a Porter-Cable polisher? Does it scratch the surface or leave swirl marks?

I used my new Porter-Cable last weekend on wife's 2002 Explorer, it had many scuff marks, but no swirls. First I washed, then clay-bar, then machine polished with the PC, then hand applied and removed the carnuba wax. Looks perfect....now ready to use it on my new Spectra Blue Mica. I use the Adams Polish products and very satisfied. The wax actually went on and removed so easily, I think I will reserve the PC for polishing only. I used the Adams Swirl and Haze remover polish and it was perfect for the job.

The PC (assuming its an orbital) is very safe for use on the paint. Really unless you repeatedly beat the car with the polisher it would be really hard to damage the paint with one.

I use the PC to apply some waxes, but generally its a polishing tool I agree. Waxing and applying sealants by hand is easier.
