I bought a motor speed meter (RMB 80 Yuan) from taobao (PRC version of Ebay) and successfully installed . The motor speed meter was mounted on the top of steering column. The idle run speed is 1300 RPM, maximum of motor is 5000 RPM and idling check is ranged from 1000-1200 RPM.
Nice installation. Does it connect to the CANbus to sense engine speed? May we ask, how much did you pay for the Prius?
The meter have five cables but only three of them need to be connected to the diagnose port under the steering wheel. No.4 pin for Ground (GND) No.9 pin for sensing the motor speed No.16 pin for power The cost for purchasing Prius is still a pain for me. The basis price is 250K RMB and VAT is about 21k RMB. The price is a pretty high.
And how much did you pay for the "motor speed meter". Does it display any other gauges as well? Just wondering how it compares to ScanGauge as far as cost, features, and easy of installation.
Translation, as a favor to those who are familliar with U.S. Dollars: The cost for purchasing Prius is still a pain for me. The basis price is $36,416 and VAT is about $3,059.
In the interests of clarity, that is an -engine- speed meter, or tachometer. The motors are electric in the Prius. You will find the engine will idle all the way down to 950 RPM or so, just before it stops if it isn't needed.
