This listing seems odd...doesn't seem to be a dealer. Anyone know? http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/160578020.html
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(blbgp @ May 16 2006, 11:17 AM) </div> His last week ad - May 7th: (Universal City/Beverly Hills) It goes on and on... "Last week we had 105 cars available; by Saturday we had 22. The Prius is hotter than ever. We have 38 cars available today. This is not just a "FINDING" service"".... Beware of people like this.....
The phone number listed in the ad is a cell phone (T-Mobile). Does not sound like a legitimate business outfit.
I talked to the guy. Somehow he gets incoming Prius info. Then he tries to workout a deal with the dealership that has the car. He said the price would be a few thousand over MSRP. I guess he keeps some of the fee and gives the dealership some for their cooperation. Unless you're in some kind of insane hurry, I don't see any advantage to using his services.
Yeah, my gut tells me that even if you are in some kind of insane hurry, you STILL should avoid this guy at all costs. I saw a whole field of "red flags" when I read this stuff. Like IsrAmeriPrius said, the guy who simply goes by "Earl" posts an unrealistic and vague Internet ad in a fairly unregulated environment, doesn't give you any other information about himself or his "business," and the only way to contact him is by calling a cell phone in San Pedro, California.
Earl Jive is a Prius car broker (and renown LA DJ). He is legit. He eliminates your need to deal with the dealer by finding exactly the car you want for the MSRP plus a $500 fee for him. When we attempted to deal directly with a dealer here in Southern CA we were told to expect a 3 week wait, not to be married to a color or package, AND to pay several thousand over the MSRP. He found our car in 3 days, plus he and his partner are very friendly and interesting people. It was no hassel and EASY!
In the words of Dr. Evil: "Right...." ... and boy, have I got a deal for you. I have a bunch of Prii that just arrived from New Orleans with NEW upholstery!
He is for real. I just found a car through him it took 6 weeks and I got the color I was looking for. I live in Michigan and it was going to be a 10 month wait. Ed
Humm, I wonder why the people defending him do so on their first and second posts? Are they imaginary? Generated by him? Sounds a little slimy to me! Deal with a reputable dealer. There are even some on this board (C Rickey Horse is one).
LOL, that was my first reaction to the "personal testimonies" of newbies. BTW, Earl Jives' real name is Vaughn Filkins. I actually know a couple of car brokers who are legit. I didn't buy through them, but some are legit, who do the same thing Earl claims to do. I'm not a newbie.
I wonder if it's the same dude that is on ebay right now they to sell his "finder fee" for a Prius for $500.
