The scangauge - OBDII interface is rather delicate. Unplugging or reconnecting (with power off) alone can throw error codes and the !Triangle! You may want to experiment first with one scangauge to see how well it behaves with your car. Paul
I attended the ScanGauge talk at Priusfest and one of the things mentioned was that numerous ScanGauges could be connected together. Mike
Did I say PRIUSFEST!!? Should be Hybridfest. So many Prii attended that it seemed like Priusfest. Sorry. Mike
Good news! Any details about how to connect them? OBD2 splitter or RJ45 splitter? Daisy-chained -- Scangauge has 2 ports: Can you use one for input and one for output? I'm thirsty for more info on this topic as I don't want to damage my Prius circuitry, or the Scangauge.
I think daisy chained is the plan. Think I'll open a bottle of wine, pour my wife a large glass and tell how much we need a second ScanGauge. Mike
I know that at least one other PriusChat member is using multiple ScanGauges. I am pretty sure that he has them daisy chained together. It is an RJ-45 connector. I have considered buying a second SG2, but haven't done it yet. I would also like to monitor SOC and battery current, but I find the 4 gauges that I use (RPM, WT, IGN, GPH) so valueable that I don't want to lose any of them for another gauge.
There's a post at TDIClub Forums - Powered by vBulletin that says "according to Rod at Scangauge (I think he's the R & D guy there.) He knows of several Prius drivers who run two scangauges for a total of 8 displayed gauges".
I have a question about the sgii here it is.... My brother bought one for his Prius and it seems to shut off while the car is running is there a setting for that or does he have to send it back? Mine does not do that and I do not remember any setting for that.
Yes, there's a setting for 'hybrid' somewhere you have to set, otherwise the SG thinks the car is shut off every time the ICE shuts down. I forget where it is, and my SG manual is out in my car and I'm not...
Setup - Fuel - Type - Hybrid I am also still looking for codes for the MG1, MG2 and inverter temps. To Jimbo, no this wouldn't really help w/ fuel econ., but I'd be interested in monitoring them. Id also like to see MG1-2 RPMs since I often neutral glide....
@kayak if i m correct the MG1 and MG1 and inverter temp are not present on the canbus bby themselfs the SG needs to be apple to send a message on the canbus to ask for the info and then capture the response.
I just got a SGII and I understand how to use the XGauge function. (I think) I want to monitor SOC and other battery functions, but I get no battery % to readout. Other XGauge functions seemed to worked like horsepower for example. Does SOC work on a 2001 Prius? Any ideas? Thanks everyone...
I did a fair amount of reading on this and settled on IGN, TPS, RPM, and MPG when I first got my Scangauge. I think these have made sense. To me, there is some redundancy and it's a matter of what readout is easiest for you. Posts describe an ideal 14IGN/18TPS for <53 mph and 15IGN/19TPS for >53mph (this is for SHM--super highway mode). I pulse with IGN 18 and then settle on 14 or 15 and let it bleed (go down in MPH while maintaining IGN 14-15). RPM and IGN (and TPS) are also related and so you may prefer to watch RPM. I find it easier to use IGN and TPS (the key is really the IGN, and the TPS just helps with the visual focus for me--seeing that 14/18 combo on the Scangauge). Very low RPM in steady state (1200-1400), which generally corresponds to IGN 14, results in excellent MPG (the Prius is NOT inefficient at RPMs less than 1400 contrary to what some posts have said). The MPG setting is nice because it goes up to 9999 and so you can see nuances above 99.9 of the Prius readout. I don't agree with the post about GPH. Maybe it's me, but I can't use that readout in any useful way.
I should add for the newbies out there (I am one), it seems that GPS (gas pedal position) is also useful for SHM. GPS has to be programmed in as an xguage function. For this and other additional gauges see Dan's fine work: The SGII Xgauge Database - CleanMPG Forums
Am I the only one that finds horsepower helpful? Seems like it's a good indicator of instantanious fuel consumption.
