We looked at the Prius when we purchased our New Beetle convertible in 2005 -- instead of adding our name to the waiting list we drove the Beetle home. When our local Toyota dealer was having their annual tent sale on Memorial Day weekend this year we stopped in to inquire about the possibilities. They didn't have one to show us except for the 08 that the sales manager was driving. After a 10 minute test drive we were sold! We put down our $500 deposit and waited. I nearly drove my family crazy pointing out every Prius we passed during the time we were waiting. It seemed like every other person had one - it reminded me of the Trans Am craze in the 70's. After 10 weeks and no word from the dealer I finally stopped in one day and left a message for the salesman to call me. Two days later he called and said he had an "option" for us - a red package #2 (our first choice was blue package #5). It didn't take long for us to say "We'll take it" since we didn't know how long it would take to get the next call. We drove it off the lot this past Saturday and haven't looked back. We are already talking about a second one to replace the Beetle.
congratulations! we have had ours going on 5 months and its still so much fun to drive. theres so many things about it besides the great gas mileage. my husband likes to take a greak at lunchtime and sit in the car for a siesta. its 95 degrees outside today and he took a nap in the car with the a/c running without any feelings of guilt! let us know about some of your discoveries after you have driven it for a while.
That's so great! I've had mine since mid-May and have loved every minute of it. I sometimes make up an excuse to go driving because it's so much fun.
Yep, it grows on you. You'll find new ways to love it every day! Be careful among pedestrian traffic, because the l'll beauty can in fact be almost silent. I love to watch my neighbors' faces when I cruise by in "golf cart mode." Enjoy!
It is a great feeling. Our neighbor came out to look at it yesterday when we stopped to get the mail. He teaches auto mechanics at our local technical education center. He has been working with our Toyota dealers to try and "borrow" a Prius for his classes so he can go over some of the hybrid technology with his students. So far he hasn't had any luck getting one - ! I told him about the PC website -- the best resource out there IMO. He was grinning ear to ear when we drove away -- silently.
Congrats - We have had our first since March, and are expecting delivery sometime in October for our second.
congrats! I just got mine yesterday...I traded in a 2000 beetle for the Prius..and am soo happy with my Prius!!!
