Tonight when getting in the car my wife's foot accidentally hit the the plastic cap that covers the front (passenger side under the dash) power outlet and it snapped off. Anyone with a manual know if it's possible to just by another cap assembly...or will I need to purchase a new lighter assembly (which I won't do). Thanks, Ken
You should be able to get just the cap. I have not replace one on a Prius,but have on other Toyota's with no problem. Just check with your dealership parts department.
It looks so flimsy, and with my radar detector plugged in, the cap hangs out underneath even farther. I thought of buying a couple of spares before they get hard to find. It's only a matter of time--there's no hinge, the plastic just bends. It won't last. It's one of the cheapest (as in crappy) parts of the interior.
Yes sorry but Toyota parts are usually more expensive then the normal domestics. Thats why I only have my MR2 and son has Civic. Wife and daughter drive GM's. They are a lot cheaper to work on :wink:
Ordered it today at the local dealer...$14.50 with tax over $15. I guess it's some new spage-age plastic they're using. But, not like I have a lot of choice on vendors...so I ordered it. Looks like I'm going to have to remove the lighter to replace it...but we'll see. Thanks for the info folks!
Yes you will need to remove the power outlet(lighter?) case. The plastic cover assembly goes back into the dash and also holds the case in place. You will see what I mean when you get the new one.

KT, I was kidding...it is cheap plastic and to replace it is $15. If there were any possibility of repairing it...I would. If it breaks again...then the port just stays exposed...or I'll find one of those dummy cigarette ligher plugs that some cars have.
Confession: I have learned to live without it. It was painful at first, my Deyo less than perfect, but after I carefully analysed the location and the probability of any conductor falling in and electrocuting itself and in the harsh bright light of day noting the accumulation of minor blemishes in her complexion I steeled myself. Even now I think it was the right thing to do.
