I came upon this site while researching the potential pitfalls of Hybrid ownership. You know the list: Battery problems, CVT, jump start horror stories, evil dealers, etc. Honestly all the hybrid hater stories had me running to Honda for an Accord, until this site set me straight. All cars will have problems. I think the small number of Priuses (Prii?) with problems is enough for me to take the plunge. And it's all your fault! I'm still eagerly awaiting my Package 2 which the (polite) dealer informed we would take up to 90 days. Anyway, hi to everyone and thanks for the community of knowledge.
welcome to the forum. as you say, all models of cars can have problems. this one requires me to change the oil and filter every 5k or so. thats about it oh-i forgot - massive problem - i changed the cabin air filter once. that took 2 minutes... seriously, this is a solidly built car - most of us have no issues with it. i'm glad you took the time to research first. and i hope you don't have to wait too long for the arrival of your new baby.
'08's were being driven home first week of September. Current scheduled port arrival for '09s is September 16th so a lot less than 90 days.
ah, yes. i failed to notice the OP is from Cali (as are you) last year, the 08's weren't to this part of the country till later on...
Thanks for the welcome. The dealer, Capitol Toyota, actually said that it will most likely be an '09 but I might get an '08 if someone backs out which I believe is very unlikely.
Welcome and I am very glad you found this site to refute the myths. I heard many of the same b.s. and also referred people here for the real story.
Before you pay for your Prius you better hear about my SKS horror story. About once a week I forget my fob in the house. I sit down in the car and press the "Power" button and my car beeps at me! You would think that after a year my car would know it was me based upon the shape and weight of my backside, BUT NO I need to go back into the house and get the fob. I don't know what's worse; the frustration of going back into the house or the hurt that my car didn't know it was me! Other than that it's a great car. Congratulations on the smart purchase and thank you for validating our choice in a car as well.
Worse then the prior post, I now go to all cars expecting to just open the door and get going by pressing the Start button!
You are funny! On the other hand I did have someone ask me if just anyone could get in the car and have it start with the push of the button. I said of course not! The car knows who I am! I do wish it would come when called.
We do get spoiled by our Prius. When I drive any other car it just makes me appreciate my car more. The new 2009 and 2010's sound great, but things will always change. I happy I got my Prius when I did and I'm surre you will be also.
